"Give me $2000" I think is just right for the present now. It's an extremely material demand. As bad as they want to, they cannot find a way to do something other than give people $2000 and have them accept it as the same as having been given $2000. They can't sit around and hope people forget about it because it's fucking, $2000, which I personally know if I have or not. It's a large enough amount of money that a lot of people would for example, escape homelessness for some time, which I know to be one of the top ten habits of highly successful homeless people. I like how they weren't initially specific that some people might not get the money which means that they do have to give a pretty large number of people the $2000 for it to count as "everyone." People in prison are supposed to get it - I like how that! On the antipodal hand, for someone with a somewhat comfortable life in Amerika, $2000 is basically no money. If I made $90,000 a year, I would be driven mad by the idea that the government somehow wasn't able to pay me the $2000 they said I was going to get, since it's nothing. I'd probably accept a $2000 pay cut at my job more easily. (For the record I make far less than $90,000... closer to $0 right now... no offense). And they did say they were going to give everyone $2000, so it gets a lot of points for historical accuracy. They can't even say they can't afford it because the pool of money seems to be pretty much infinite, being conceptual and all. You can see the high quality and fine craftmanship of this demand when you compare it to "We are the 99%" which is more like a demand that you circle yes or no and pass the note back.

all the complaints about biden bombing syria and not giving out checks instead reveals a glaring misunderstanding of crakkker economic$ in the hearts and minds of the amerikkkan peoples

yes I think that's true, for smart & good reasons other than how I post a lot on the topic of, Democrat Socialist Amerikkka lines on U.S. military spending depend on either a willful or stupid failure to understand exploitation. The usual DSA line of "why don't we spend the bomb money on the good things I like" must ignore that spending on bombs and bullets and wars (while necessarily non-productive in the strict sense) is a capital-churning enterprise for the bourgeoisie through the bourgeois state. It's exploitation that would in turn fund any Significant Discounts-style DSA watery-shit "social spending" that attempts to pacify angry domestic voters, just as the LBJ-era "Great Society" wasn't brought down by U.S. genocide in Asia, it was funded by it. And all that bullet/bomb spending is the spending that DSA's leading politicians even more mysteriously "must" support "to get elected", hmmm......... *my hand's in front of my mouth and i'm talking in different voices* Yeah cars is right yeah let's listen to cars.

that saaaaiiiiddd......... demands for the money often don't involve that comparison with Syria, etc., and for reasons I think most people on this forum would support, I think if there's any virtue at all in the demand, it comes from it just being a naked one without comparisons, Give Me The Money. In part that's also because this isn't some nebulous social program like the ACA where it takes years for a lot of people to figure out that it doesn't actually do anything it says it does. Like swampman describes, if they don't give you the $2000, they didn't give you the $2000. And they will never give you the $2000. So all the people trying to argue otherwise, that the White House meant the next installment of a payment plan they never brought up before, or that the White House never said they'd give the money to anyone, or whatever, those dorks all start the conversation off unsettled & aggravated, even the anti-social personalities among them, because they know they will never, ever find a convincing argument for their point. And they're mad that their social superiors have forced them into that position, at least if the sub-nerds want to continue to be booj-politics mini-pundits Online. At the very least, since all those people suck and it's funny when they get mad, heck that's real funny for me as a Poster, also Online.

I think that for politics addicted freaks like us, the pathetic excuses and prevaricating around breaking the obvious clear promise to give people $2000 fucking dollars so that they can pay rent and buy food for their kids, may feel like just another tedious entry in the endless list of lies fabrications atrocities and other circus acts. I think that sort of attitude will lead you astray.

The US establishment are trying to send a clear message to the vaguely left currents that they held hostage with the threat of Trump this election: Fuck you, we own you, you get nothing. No collaboration, no compromise. You get in line, you support the Democrat infrastructure, and you will thank us, or else. I think that the lifers of the DSA and the Bernie campaign are going to eat that shit and grin and keep going, for those worms the strategy will work as intended.

But for people who don't follow politics, it's very clear: They were going to get $2000 fucking dollars. Maybe they barely know a single thing about the past 4, 16, 30 years of politics, but they know that. Many of these people desperately need that $2000 right now. They aren't going to get it. If you want to build a political movement in the imperial core against the empire, the kind of actual political movement that involves talking to and mobilizing ordinary people, you are always fighting upstream against a river of bullshit justifications and obfuscation. It's a slow disgusting slog that will eventually wear you down to nothing because a whole class of soulless ghouls are paid handsomely to keep shitting it out forever. This time, we've been given a reprieve: there is no justification. There can't be. They said they were going to give $2000 dollars. They never will. That's it. They've clogged the pipe.

The US political establishment has shown that they contemptuously underestimate the mass of people they can't directly micromanage outside their own captive political class. They are perpetually dumbfounded when their greasy manipulations blow up in their faces. They don't get it because they don't really think of people as people, just abstract demographics on a spreadsheet that obey crude mechanistic laws. Promise policy x, get y votes. They didn't think any further ahead than that because they cannot truly imagine the deathgrip of their power weakening, even while they scream histrionics about the undermining of our precious norms and institutions.

But more than half a million people are dead of a plague the government refuses to take seriously, the state of Texas has frozen to death because of openly gleeful contempt for the necessities of life, the economy is a hollow farce that produces nothing offers nothing and pays nothing. Also the planet is fucking dying. And people know this, just as much as they know they could be getting $2000 dollars but won't because No Reason. I think that within that mistake there's a genuine opportunity to be grasped. Nothing decisive, but a good handhold.

demanding the U.S. government pay for a century plus of chattel slavery is also a demand for something that's never going to happen, it's an even better demand because of that, and a real good thing for that demand is the slogan, Forty Acres And A Mule. It's a lot better than We Need More Acres For Our Children. It's a certain amount of acres. The mule seems reasonable, no one's winning the Preakness with a mule. College-educated Democrats will tell you over and over that AcTuAlLy, no one was ever promised any of that. But everyone knows that no one got it because Washington is the Upper Room KKKlavern.
