I thought toyot's numbers had to be wrong, but I did my own digging and they're not at all. I found this academic paper analyzing early data, which said hospitalization to death was avg. 10 days, SD 5 days, in analysis of early days of the Chinese outbreak.
And we already know infection to symptoms onset can be up to 14 days (some have suggested even longer)

The 1% death rate is also only when health care is performing fully well, is not overwhelmed, and is universal. The rate went up to 13% in Wuhan city itself during the most overwhelmed period, during which as the report puts it "a breakdown in healthcare delivery probably occurred".

I have a little bit of first hand experience with US health care, which I would already describe as a breakdown in healthcare delivery. It seems very easy to multiply a few numbers together and come up with worst case scenario death toll estimates for the US that are extremely big numbers.

I don't think you should say these kind of things, the underlying logic here is indistinguishable from anti semitism — rich people who don't belong here are nefariously carrying diseases into our community. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but Socialism isn't going to see a return into the parochial community but rather a deepening of the process of globalization (if we want to call it that) that's going to retain the same risks but also allow for a planned, global response

we know who brought the virus into our communities, was talking to an SF friend on saturday. she was gonna host her college roommate, but with everything, told her to stay home. this roommate is a banker in london, she had a big deal to do in NYC, then was flying to SF to visit. this banker was incensed she'd have to change her plans. my friend had been taking good quarantine precautions, and didn't want to risk anything. her banker roommate said she thinks she already got it in january anyway, so she was immune to having to change her lifestyle at all. she ended up coming to SF and just stayed with another friend. so look at the map, because that's how it spread and who spread it.

seriously though i get your point toyot but there is a big difference between the booj/pb and the labor aristocrats who make up the vast bulk of tourists responsible for a lot of the spread around the world via cruises etc. so your message is a little muddled in the detail even if the spirit is correct
