I think it's kind of adorable though, given the swift rise and fall of Strasserism on the online right in previous years, how many right-wing NEET failsons you can still find on Twitter who preach "unity" between the "authoritarian right" and the "authoritarian left" by pointing out that on America's Sweetheart The Political Compass, those totally real political camps are right next to each other. I guess that sort of philosophy comes from the same sort of combination of 1) irony poisoning, and 2) not understanding anything you read, that used to afflict a few people on older versions of LF, but you'd think just a steady diet of getfiscal's memes would make those kids understand that Leninists don't even have the option of transferring the motive power of history from the revolutionary struggle of the workers to Jayden D. Deficiency in Sioux Falls.

Slightly tangential but I'm not sure we've seen the "fall" portion of online Strasserism yet. I think it is rather dangerously on the rise--right now there's a minor DSA debate on about a 1500 member Reddit of irony bro dipshits who were too anti-idpol for Chapo circles and I know nothing will be done to purge this type of person from the largest "socialist" organization in the US. That this crowd makes up a large portion of the DSA was never a secret and of course they are really only marginally involved in politics but it's still a big drain on any potential organizing in the US. Like I just came across this horrible article today that I could only stumble through a few paragraphs of: https://www.thecut.com/2018/10/profile-red-scare-podcast.html. We've been taught that socialism is when the government does stuff, but now people are also saying that socialism is when you call people "gay retards".I'm becoming increasingly skeptical that the new interest in socialism in the US is just going to turn into nihilism or people like Commie Flanders who want free college and healthcare but also a return to "traditional values". If only Flanders had been able to improve his writing he would've gotten a WaPo column.

Well I guess I’m overreacting but if overt fascism is on the rise then it stands to reason that Strasserism as a branch of this will keep cropping up in these types of forms. The military is in one aspect a social democratic program for sociopathic settlers and Trump made cynical references to health care programs—do you really think it’s thar much of a stretch that some Jordan peterson knockoff wont start calling for free college and Medicare for all? Using another fringe ideology, you can say that ancaps are not connected to reality and that’s true but at the same time there’s thugs with black and gold Pinochet shirts beating the shit out of people at rallies

Like... it's hard to overstate the gap between what I'm talking about, the sharp rise and fall of 4chan failson flyover-country Strasserism a few years back, and a small group of edge-squatter Bernie Sanders voters centered in NYC whose pseudo-platform is We Want Significant Discounts On Dental You Faggots. In large part because the second group includes a lot of irony-poisoned women striving toward yuppiehood. I imagine a few of the former have ended up silently following the latter, but I feel like only certain DSA members themselves would see the latter as meaningfully distinct from the DSA rank-and-file.

These people aren't something limited to NYC. Maybe their exact brand is but there's lots of Bernie supporters and squishy 'leftists' (read: white men 20somethings) who are getting increasingly pissed about identity politics and organizations putting the oppressed first. This was Caleb Maupin's stated reason for leaving WWP and creating his cracker left org. But its also the reason I've had 'anarchists' spit in my face at rallies while wearing t-shirts with assads face on it while justifying egoism. These people aren't going away, they just look different in different locales.
