Members of a Suncrest Christian Church mission team are grateful to be back home after being stranded two extra days in Haiti during street riots protesting the country’s escalating gas prices.
Mission trip team leader Kim Childress said with the loving help of the Haitian people and trust in God the members felt safe in Haiti despite seeing smoke and hearing gunfire outside their compound.
“We knew that at any moment it could become a very ugly situation,” Childress said. “Where we stayed is a pretty big walled-in compound. The Haitians worked extraordinarily hard to make sure that we were safe. We always knew that we were protected. We always knew that God was with us the entire time. We saw that in many many ways.”
