The following are the anti-pc proffessor's wildly popular 'rules for life'

Rule 1 Stand up straight with your shoulders back

Rule 2 Treat yourself like you would someone you are responsible for helping

Rule 3 Make friends with people who want the best for you

Rule 4 Compare yourself with who you were yesterday, not with who someone else is today

Rule 5 Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them

Rule 6 Set your house in perfect order before you criticise the world

Rule 7 Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient)

Rule 8 Tell the truth – or, at least, don’t lie

Rule 9 Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don’t

Rule 10 Be precise in your speech

Rule 11 Do not bother children when they are skate-boarding

Rule 12 Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street

Why is this the right-wing manifesto of the year?

What do these dull platitudes have in them that is so appealing to the present and future shock-troops of 21st century fascism?

In all seriousness though he is an influential right-wing ideologue and I see no reason not to discuss him here.

The man lives in my city and I'm interested in fighting his message and his influence on my peers. I think better understanding his place in the current ideological landscape can help me with that.

i think maybe the fact that they're really dull and obvious but at the same time are being put forward by a guy with an 'intellectual' veneer might explain their appeal. like none of those points are very controversial, there's a 'common sense 'thing to them, but this guy who we are assured is very smart is saying them.

#10
i think it's cool that the dullest most nothing-happening people in the world are now getting into jungian psychoanalysis because the professor guy gives them intellectual justifications to be mean to imaginary trans / feminist sjw strawpeople they would never actually talk to in real life
#11
now replace 'jungian' with 'lacanian' and i just explained zizek.. boom... horseshoe theory is real

show me the tweets where this happened pls

jordan peterson's shit is trying to scrounge together a concept of objective morality based not on traditional religion but on the obvious, biotruths, and the less obvious, jungian archetypes, which is an excellent secular mysticism

there's a real poverty of thought in the opposition and even though it won't save us from their brute idiot violence, we should almost be thankful they don't demand a better quality in their demagogues and are willing to settle for any half baked charlatan.

just imagine the carnage if they got to have a mishima or a celine, instead we get to bask in the poetry of yiannopoulos humiliating himself in court defending the honour of his unpublishable word turds

it is fairly astonishing how lacking the present right is given some of the reactionary artists and intellectuals of the past. i stumbled on an alt right novelist a while back and it was the worst shit imaginable just on a basic level of craft

they just dont need to bother, and who would want to, everythings so tired now, weve done all this before, but now the structure of western monopoly control on everything is far more entrenched and the rot at the heart of imperialism has progressed to such a stage that nobody needs a charismatic demagoge or whatever, they just need a guy telling us his dad rules for why racism is fine as the seas fill up with shit and the forests burn and the world slides inexorably closer to the coming gigadeaths

As an academic I have to give Peterson credit. After a successful but intensely boring career churning out papers that only a handful of other sperglords would ever read, he's achieved what every academic dreams of--he's found an audience of a size commensurate with his massive, underappreciated intellect that cares about his opinions not just on his microbranch of psychology, but also every other bit of minutiae that he wants to complain about.

For decades, students have been yawning through his rants on good posture, only to interject with "will this be on the test?", and snickering that a nebbish weirdo considers himself the last bastion of manliness. Now he has an army of millions of pepes and Greek Statue Guys ready to martyr themselves for whatever platitude pops into his head. He's somehow bumbled into the quintessential academic power fantasy.

i've thought this as well -- that the quality of reactionaries is really lacking today. at other points in history, a strong reactionary movement has forced leftists to step up their game. the French utopian socialists that influenced Marx (Saint Simon, etc) talked about how working through Maistre's arguments were a huge help

but then i realized the delightful irony of pining for reactionaries to reclaim the same vital force they allegedly had in a Romanticized past

I used to clean offices at U of T and Richard Florida's corner office was filled with kitchsy bullshit and his bookshelves were filled with dozens of copies of his own books in languages he doesn't even read. Literally 80% his own books
