domestic violence convictions are a big problem for the military because, pursuant to federal statute, you cant own or possess a gun if you have basically any domestic violence conviction on your record. colorado springs, home to the air force academy and several bases, has a creative solution cooked up with the da's office where if someone accused of a dv offense (i think just misdemeanors, not sure about felony level) completes a round of dod approved dv treatment, they will dismiss the case. justice!

can't figure out if the fact that colorado springs would have been the first place to get nuked means there's a hint of cosmic justice in the world or if the fact that it never happened means there is no god

That would be throwing the baby out with the bathwater, where the baby represents a few hundred thousand wage slaves and their actual babies, while the bathwater is a gang of mass murdering wife beaters who spend all day at gun practice.

don't forget about the fundamentalists who spend half their time advocating for child abuse and the other half funneling money and voters to reactionaries!

The results showed little support for the so-called “nuclear taboo” thesis, or that the principle of “noncombatant immunity” – civilian protection from such weapons – has become a deeply held norm in America. This month marks the 72nd anniversary of the atomic bomb used against Japan to help end World War II. Hiroshima was bombed Aug. 6 and Nagasaki was bombed on Aug. 9, 1945.

Sagan said it suggests that the U.S. public’s support for the principle of noncombatant immunity is “shallow and easily overcome by the pressures of war.”

When considering the use of nuclear weapons, the majority of Americans prioritize protecting U.S. troops and achieving American war aims, even when doing so would result in the deliberate killing of millions of foreign noncombatants, according to Sagan and Valentino.

Sagan noted, “The most shocking finding of our study is that 60 percent of Americans would approve of killing 2 million Iranian civilians to prevent an invasion of Iran that might kill 20,000 U.S. soldiers.”

my iptv provider carries AFN Prime, the Armed Forces Network channel dedicated to popular programs like sitcoms, dramas and talk shows. im checking it out right now and it's bizarre. seth meyers is on so theres a bunch of jokes about trump being a sex predator, cut to commercial and apart from a promo for another tv show its all troop ads, like how when your overseas you need to follow local road rules when biking, and one about not making excuses not to give blood with uniformed troops ripping up placards with excuses written on them and smiling to the camera. feelgood ads for troops who feel icky about giving blood, the absurdity of liberal culture writ large

Track Palin, the oldest son of former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, was arrested Saturday in Alaska on charges of domestic violence. It marks the second time he's been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence in two years.
