it depends where in the eu you are; in the east the canards that were already doing the rounds in the 1900s are coming back big just remove 'judeo-bolshevik' and make it 'jewish union', in the west it's a bit more subtle cause it's espoused by cryptofascist like alain soral and dieudonné, and capital will gladly use those two to delegitimize palestine solidarity movements and go with the regular muslim-baiting. it doesn't help that right wing jewish organisations will gladly join in if it protects israel

the DUP getting into government will break the Good Friday Accords, so I'd reckon the Real IRA picking up arms again isn't an impossibility
however it's probably more likely Sinn Fein is going to push way more for a unison referendum than they already are, especially if Brexit turns out to be hard on the Ulster border

tears posted:i am interested in a sense of what the general/mainstream/public "mainland western europe" attitudes to the US is, in comp arison to the UK's fawning special relation ship
it depends honestly from country to country, but the general sense has switched several times in the past ten years as well. After 9/11 the post-Cold War consensus of 'Now NATO is the world police and Western Europe must help through the EU' was very prominent until the start of the Iraq War. Apart from Spainish bourgeoisie ceding to the MIC interests in the country and Berlusconi being Berlusconi all western EU countries were against the war, because unlike Libya or Syria warring in Iraq at the time was essentially a pure American imperialist goal to weaken Iran.
That changed when Obama came in as most people were hoping that Change was going to actually happen (read: the US will become a left-liberal welfare state) and while the idea was to improve relations, they were never as blatantly brownnosing as what the UK did (mostly because for many EU countries, especially west of Poland, intra-union and China trade was more interesting than US trade, and also there was this whole monetary crisis at the time which meant the Union was looking inwards anyway). The only conflict you had between the bourgeoisies was on what imperialist goals to complete first. The US of course say their goals are paramount if NATO is to be a thing still, the EU has always said it will concede to the US only if their proper interests are under control, which is why you're hearing Obama and Trump talk about how Europe isn't doing enough.
Currently most people think the US are insane for electing Trump while going through most of the policies that made the extreme-right big, which is making it so in several countries you've got internet-right copies of the american alt-right (and surprise surprise they're all members of fascist parties). I've probably said it on this site before, but apart from the Netherlands and the UK most European bourgeoisies are further looking eastwards to dealing with China on the basis that the stability of the Communists and the lower wages in China are more interesting for the growth of European capital than the instability of the Trump Cabinet, even though it's pretty much a total victory for Capital (apart from not having the stability needed for actually going through with fascism)

Because of the EU having a common policy on this there's not much difference between the countries (it's 5 years continuous residence for most countries). If you have the money you can buy a Maltese or Cypriot nationality, if you aren't a rich shit the easiest is probably the 4 years time in France if you go to higher education (2 years higher education before application and 2 years after application)
you can see where this is headed, i'm sure

you can see where this is headed, i'm sure
in Malta it's a donation of €800k to the government, while having a property worth at least €350k for a year and €25K (€50K if over 18) per dependent, cyprus is more expensive, there it's at least 2 million euros

how much do EU citizens read other-language internet news/forums?
i made a thread about the state of left blocs and left parties in the eu here: https://www.rhizzone.net/forum/topic/14112/ there is an organized left in the eu, mostly through the GUE or INITIATIVE. i can only answer your second question based on my experience: i'd say at least in the north and west of the EU, about a third of the people will read at least one type of english language news outside of their language. in general though, the only languages people read are the language of the region they grow up in and the languages they got at home (children from italian immigrants going to read some italian news now and then for example)
Edit:
We just had a "terrorist attack" (pending investigation but since they were refugees or something you know how it goes) and some quote unquote anti-revisionist ML is claiming that Lenin advocated patriotism and closing borders for immigration and thats whats his theses on imperialism were really about.
