e:
another section in that Venezuela analysis article ...

Journalist Ramón Camacho has reported that Parra was shot while attempting to prevent a looting at the Walio Supermarket in Maracay on Monday evening. The Araguan capital was the scene of widespread unrest following the opposition’s call to block roads nationwide earlier that day. Sixty-eight business were looted and several public institutions were attacked, including a fire station, a national telephone company switchboard, and a national tax administration office.

reminded me of this campaign in syria

The colonel in charge of the Damascus RSCD centre told me that since the “crisis” began, six years ago, there have been many invasions of RSCD centres across Syria. Crews have been massacred or kidnapped, ambulances, fire engines and equipment stolen by the invading extremist groups, including Nusra Front, Ahrar al Sham and ISIS.

Raqqa RSCD was attacked in early 2014, the majority of the crew were massacred and ambulance, fire-engines and equipment were stolen. Deir Ezzor RSCD was attacked in 2013, crew members were killed or kidnapped, equipment stolen. Idlib RSCD was attacked in August 2015, crew members were killed or kidnapped, equipment stolen. Much of this equipment, according to the Colonel, was later appropriated by the NATO state funded White Helmets. Many of the RSCD crew members who escaped during these attacks, are now working in RSCD centres in Hama and Homs. Some remained in Deir Ezzor and continued to operate, saving civilians, under the long running ISIS siege and attacks.

from that article

Chavez was a pioneer among politicians in the use of Twitter, gathering millions of followers and frequently announcing news on the platform. Even today, Chavez's 4 million followers beat Maduro's 3 million.

maybe we should look into re-animating Chavez

"They killed thousands of accounts, if they shut down a thousand, we will open 10,000 or more with the youth," Maduro said. "The battle on social media is very important."

Patriot, or government plant? Rumors fly over Venezuela helicopter attack

But on Wednesday, speculation was growing that the incident may have been staged by a government eager to divert attention from three months of protests, fueled by mounting anger at the country’s chronic lack of basic foods and medicines.

Former Venezuelan General Miguel Rodriguez Torres is being accused of being an informant for the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, DEA, after the Venezuelan outlet Ultimas Noticias published a document obtained from the federal agency late Saturday.

The confidential report names Rodriguez Torres, a former minister of Venezuela’s Department of Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, as an information provider for the arrests of top United Socialist Party of Venezuela, PSUV, and military leaders.

Citing the former general’s “useful and real information,” the report states that many of these criminal charges pursued were “achieved through the collaboration of Rodriguez Torres.” It also recommends that Rodriguez Torres be secured as a protected source for the DEA and the U.S. government.

A few minutes in the protester mentions the Green Helmets as something they in Venezuela get American support from.

This is only piddly crowdfunding afaik, but I wouldn't be surprised if NED or some billionaire starts giving them real money.

The British spy who dreamed up the white helmets in 2013 was foresighted when he saw that having a bunch of actors with cameras 'legitimately' in battlezones is key to controlling the story of what's going on

http://www.telesurtv.net/english/news/Maduro-I-Am-Proud-to-Be-Sanctioned-Mr-Donald-Trump-20170731-0024.html

In a public address, Maduro declared, "Impose whatever sanctions you like but I am the leader of the free people."

The comments come after the U.S. Treasury Department announced it will impose sanctions directly on President Maduro.

The sanctions mean Maduro's assets subject to U.S. jurisdiction are now frozen and people from the U.S. are prohibited from dealing with the head of state.

Maduro lambasted the sanctions as an "imperialist attack" against Venezuela's National Constituent Assembly, ANC.

"Why are they sanctioning me? Because I called democratic elections so that people can freely vote for the National Constituent Assembly," he said. "I feel proud to be sanctioned Mr Imperialist Donald Trump."

Maduro assured that pressure from the United States will not derail the ANC.

"Venezuela will not be silenced, nothing and nobody will stop the National Constituent Assembly," he said.

According to electoral authorities, over 8 million people voted in Venezuela's National Constituent Assembly election Sunday — a turnout of over 41 percent.

Maduro argued the mass turnout was an indication that the people of Venezuela were committed to peace and see the ACN as a solution to the country's current political crisis.

"I will be happy to meet him and shake his hand but Trump is making the biggest mistake of his life with Venezuela because Venezuela is the key to solidarity in the region," said Maduro.

it must be really frustrating to almost coup a country this many times. i bet some greasy toad in the pentagon is hoppin mad with steam shootin out his ears
#98
41% is higher than the 2014 US midterm turnout lol. I'm sure the MSM will be continue pushing stories of how public servants were frogmarched to the polls under threat of death--pretty sure Reuters was already insinuating people only voted because they thought they were gonna get fired
#99
so far the tactic i've seen in the western media is to just claim with no evidence that the turnout was actually far less than 8 million and therefore not a mandate, AND also claim with no evidence that the unofficial referendum the opposition held earlier in the month (with no electoral supervision as far as i can tell and absolutely no measures to prevent double voting and fraud) to not have a convention had a turnout of 7.1 million where "more than 98% of voters" voted in favor of the opposition slate (which consisted of three partisan and tendentious questions).

#100
yeah the western press is claiming that the turnout was more like 20%, citing... the opposition, a clearly unbiased source who definitely has the resources to know that. lol
#101
western press mocking election results in enemy states: podunk dictatorship brazen and stupid enough to think anyone would imagine an election with almost 90% agreement is legitimate or valid

western press covering a referendum organized by right-wing capitalists: "Millions of government opponents dealt a symbolic blow Sunday to Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, casting votes in an unofficial referendum rejecting his controversial plan for a constitutional overhaul. Opposition activists said more than 7 million Venezuelans participated, and that in excess of 98% opposed Maduro’s plan for a new assembly charged with rewriting the constitution."

I am very happy to see liberal, conservatives, and other weirdos finally come together and support trump's decision. All it took to unite the country was claiming a fraudulent election of a socialist government based on incredibly poor evidence from institutions that have a well documented history of spreading literal fake news on Venezuela

I'm glad it is being used for the forces of light but the outgoing Venezuelan constitution seems really badly written if basically anyone can officially call a constitutional convention and determine everything about it. Like imagine if Trump were allowed to decree a constitutional convention right now and appoint the people who composed it. Hmm well actually in that case they'd just come up with the same constitution because it's already the worst possible constitution. I have proven myself wrong.

Communication from the Bolivarian National Armed Force

The Bolivarian National Armed Force informs the Venezuelan people and the whole world that in the morning of today, Sunday, August 6th, 2017, a paramilitary terrorist attack was made against the 41st Armored Brigade of the Bolivarian army, located in Valencia , Carabobo state.

The referred action was executed by a group of civil delinquents with military garments and a first lieutenant in the situation of desertion.
They were immediately repelled by the personnel addressed by the aforementioned unit, performing several arrests, including the mentioned subordinate officer. Part of the group stole some arms and are under intense search by bodies of state security.

The terrorist operation included the diffusion of a video engraved by a subordinate official that three years ago was separated from the institution for betrayal of the homeland and for rebellion, who fled the country and received protection in Miami, United States.

The subjects captured have confessed being contracted in the Zulia, Lara and Yaracuy states, by activists of the extreme Venezuelan right in connection with foreign governments.

This action follows the Venezuelan people, according to the constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, electing, with more than 8 million votes, the national constituent assembly, installed on Friday, August 4th, 2017; and that as expression of the original power is the suitable mechanism to peacefully address the differences that may exist between Venezuelans.

The only election of the constituent assembly allows us to return harmony and peace to the Venezuelan society after a period of focused violence by an orchestration of internal and external factors seeking foreign intervention in Venezuela.

The terrorist attack of today is not more than a propagandistic operation, a strike, a desperate step that is part of the destabilization plans and the continued and developing plot to prevent the consolidation of the rebirth of our republic.

The BNAF remains unharmed, monolithically united, attached to its democratic convictions, with high morale, unconditionally supporting citizen Nicolás Maduro Moros, constitutional president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and our Commander In Chief, and his constituent initiative, and the Bolivarian Revolution as a project that pursues the consolidation of the free, sovereign and independent country.

We reaffirm in the most ardent way the rejection of this affront, planned by groups with perverse interests and mixed unpatriotic intentions. In that regard, the military general supervisory body was duly notified to initiate the corresponding actions in which this fact is clearly characterized as a military crime.

We ratify our rejection to these types of barbarous acts against the people and their institutions. This dirty trick reinforces our principles and values; we will not accept under any circumstances that our sovereignty and the social achievements achieved for the benefit of the major majorities were made vulnerable.

Finally we make a call to each person of this land; so that as siblings linked by history and our libertarian roots, we will find the solutions to the problems that afflict us through the framework of legality. A country is not constructed with violence or resentment, but with justice, cooperation and understanding.
