brezhnev era biography of Anthony Eden, 1st Earl of Avon, former PM who has a reputaion for being "anti-appeasement" despite having been pro appeasement. Its pretty good at laying out british foriegn policy in the run up to 1939, but its got that late USSR thing where every so often theres a bit that ends "...this was perfectly in line with lenin's theory of the peaceful co-existence of states with different social systems", the peace be upon him of soviet revisionism

i'm reading arundhati roy's latest and more than anything it reminds me of discipline's light novel "spooks" and lgp's novel. it's weird and bad as art how she gloms together and confuses every struggle in india but maybe also a necessary polemic

my objection to the quoted statement is that it's a gussied up version of "the problem with the world is that vapid bitches don't appreciate nice guys." don't know if that has anything to do with what you're talking about

i started reading Listen Liberal and it's good but one thing it doesn't mention is how twitter has imo helped leftism not particularly because of anything anyone on the left says but rather because liberal-managerialism relies on the illusion of apolitical meritocratic competence and this idea can't persist when one sees that the elite opinionmakers are actually complete morons

Delayed age of marriage + economic insecurity has lead to young ppl who are already fucking to fuck more widely & some of them are calling that "polyamorous" now instead of "casual" but actual polyamorists are mostly lower middle class grossos, in my experience. I don't buy that rich people are forming harems. Also actual poor people (rather than economically insecure but not actually poor emotionally & technologically isolated fail children) historically manage to fuck even if they aren't getting married.

The idea of monogamy as a classist invention to provide middle & working class men with wifes is something with some vague merit somewhere in there but I only ever hear about it from PUAs so my final verdict is weird latter day evopsych style just-so story. In particular it's used in those circles to promote what they see as short term attractive behaviors (ie things that get you sex) like having a thick neck and being rude, over long term attractive behaviors (finding WIFE) like having a house and wearing dockers.

People really are fucking less along due to social atomization. Huge amounts of people live alone now in a historically unprecedented fashion, and loneliness is very normal. I also suspect the rich might fuck more, for the same reasons they generally do drugs and party more.
