but i just don't have it in me to hate left liberals. this is partially (but only partially, believe me) because I am one, but it's mostly because both center-liberals and non-liberal rightists have cranked up their grotesqueness to 11 so even if Freddie is a fake socialist at least he and his get points for being recognizably human

i don't "hate" them at all, i post constantly about engaging with left-liberals on here and practice what i preach, and to me there's a big gap between the sort of left-liberal who might be reached by left messages and the sort that writes an article in AD 2016 about how "when" (lmao) the United States intervenes in Syria, it will tear "the left" apart, based on an article in Socialist Worker about the "Assad-Iran-Russia Triple Alliance".
i have been reading deboer for years ever since he was piggybacking on Democrat blogs to get his stuff read, and if anything he's moved to the right since he found his niche among "leftists" who flutter their hands and freak out over anti-imperialism in a behind-the-times bid to look "serious". the problem with deboer isn't that he's a left-liberal, it's that he's a reactionary in the most active and real sense.

How on Earth can you write the below, and think posting it is a good idea? Do you really think that this sounds sensible and not batshit insane? Seriously dude I’m not a big fan of yours but some friendly advice: next time, just breath and put the keyboard away. Apply your intellectual energies into something more productive than showcasing your translucently thin skin.
he defensively poisons the well of "Mad Online"-ness, but he's still so invested that he'd never admit emotional investment (in fact, the real Mad ones are the "tribes of angry dudes" calling him out). he can't be owned because the whole concept of "not being owned" is a borderline-incoherent goal in the sphere of human interaction (but you know, not in the richard dawkins way of saying it). he's combating "nth-degree irony" by being Above It All, and he got there by sifting and slopping through the same muck for a suitable value of n+i
it's almost poetic, really

roseweird posted:i just gave it a quick read and i don't know any background on this person but i thought it was mainly talking about conflicting messages of "internet irony stuff doesn't really matter, politically" and "the dsa is successfully enlarging its ranks and radicalizing its members with memes", and complaining that organizations can't have it both ways... either that stuff matters, and has an effect on organizing, or it doesn't matter (and is a waste of time, which is not to say don't do it, but don't mix it up with stuff that matters). sounds correct regardless of whether you care about the dsa or not. but twitter/fb/whatever he is talking about is mysterious to me so i guess i'll accept almost anything anyone postulates about it
yeah i also read it pretty quickly but im not really sure what the built-in contradiction is between "people enjoy funny people" and "after funny socialist people did memes and irony jokes now people are joining the DSA"; that seems to line up perfectly actually, but the article is presented as a criticism. so i guess the claim seems to be that the irony used in lefty circles is cynical and inherently self-defeatist or something which is harmful, in spite of the evidence it isn't, abd this then allows freddie to introduce the contradiction of how does it work and how do we stop acting this way. when again i think the critique is kind of invented and being projected onto people who are just enjoying a type of humor that's funny to them.
then again there was some stuff about a culture of owning people online or something that im not sure how it ties in so maybe i breezed through it a little too quickly.

LF was 98% bump this thread every time Obamas name sounds like Osama & the most typing fuck this gay earth photos you got threads & the fact that 8 years later a few people like the T5000 are actual useful organizers and a few others like Sam K and Big Jeb have burgeoning pundit careers are at best an accident of time and place. Most of the name changed to James K Polk and bought a black and white avatar of James K Polk crew have happily returned their normie, white noise lives.
