thank you for the reco, idk what happened to uc irvine. i study there and have heard so much of its radical transdisciplinary past but it's painfully fratboyed now. w check out the book and thanks to others for new thread.

modern US science education is an intricate selection and molding process to compartmentalize the practice of science from its effects on others and earthlife. the method isn't all that sophisticated, it just sort of doesn't leave time or intellectual energy for inquiry outside of really narrow, assigned questions, just training intellectual laborers who can follow orders by a boss or prof. this probably isn't the right thread for this but it's quite deliberate and a good book on it is Disciplined Minds by Jeff Schmidt, who was a physics prof at uc irvine.
