the fact people care so much about the word nationalism, without understanding how much worse neoliberalism is, breaks my brain like if you put a hard-boiled egg into a pitching machine and fired it at a concrete wall. at least you can divorce nationalism from capitalism relatively easily, whereas neoliberalism is global capitalism plus whatever munitions bring it along the quickest, but since it is relatively aesthetically pleasing, the net effect (i.e. total number of brown people killed) is acceptable
i'd love to call people neonazis all fucking day but if you call what my african friend calls a "well-meaning white person" a neoliberal they become the lowest common denominator almost immediately . because they associate their bad ideas with their skin colour instead of with their actual thinking (in psychology we call this cognitive dissonance)
edit: great, i am at the top of page two, which makes my post less avoidable than if it were in the mix

1. Old GBS thread where a guy posted what it was like to host an orgy. I've got no problems with orgys or hosting them but this guys advice was all about having towels... lots of Warm... Clean... Towels . Keep them in the dryer so they're warm. Everyone will want to relax with a nice, fluffy, clean, dry, warm towel. with that smiley every time. It reminded me of the scene in eyes wide shut where Tom Cruze is in the tailor's shop and he's being seduced by a child and then the tailor comes out and you think he's going to be mad but actually hes pimping his daughter. Just in feeling.
2. In some old thread about being a english postgrad or something a guy asked the OP about reading and the OP described having to read things for school but then said that "(he) still likes to pleasure-read, and when (he) does, the honeyed words drip off the page" and its the grossest, dumbest, worst thing I can think of to say.
I was thinking about these in real life. They both are probably a decade old if not older at this point. There was no place else to post this. Understand that I will never die, and can't die, because everything is forever.

i suspect once the big boys have a sit down with him and explain exactly how the world works (war machine, etc) he'll be just like the other 44 presidents
when matters at last reached the stage of a mass movement, insurrection— when it was necessary to help the masses to use violence— then just at that moment the “terrorists” were missing. That is where the terrorists make their mistake.

i understand. i used to hate goths in high school because i was a jock who strived to be cool and accepted and i was envious that they felt free to display the pain and suffering that they felt inside, until a few years back when i realized that that was the gothest fucking thing of all
whats in our shadow is always the scariest, most offensive

i always have a distaste for it, but i don't let that stop me from working with them cause you gotta make hay while the sun shines
cars posted:well no it's because they're mostly bourgeois-valued adventurists who tolerate incredibly degenerate behavior and immediately trust anyone they meet who seems to agree with them and are therefore the usual vector for police infiltration of any coalition, even more likely than the left-liberal Democrats, and all of them except the syndicalists don't pay any attention to history or understand that socialism requires defense as well as offense to establish and that ideology is exactly why they get played by the cops and scattered. they're good to smash things though as long as nothing is at stake for them except a night in jail so good job out there today, hope y'all become communists before the federal government entraps your squad.
my b iggest act of anarchy ever was putting on more eyeliner than alice cooper and angrily sitting on the edge of the wishing well/fountain in the mall i drove to in my shitty ford escort, for about two hours while i listened to leftover crack repeat on the cd playeer i got for christmas. i mean now i'm a former blue collar who is back in university but back then i'm pretty sure if i saw someone wearing a george w bush hat in those days i'd tell them to fuck right off!

ah, i see we probably know different anarchists, the ones I know are extremely mindful of these things, but I am starting to meet more of the ones you're talking about and: yeah, that's a problem
i don't really find these images of individual acts of protest cathartic. to me it looks like the ineffectual flailing of an extremely weak left... just depressing and embarrassing. my gut feeling is that it plays the same role in radical circles as the hillary clinton harry potter fanfic or woke toddler stuff does for liberals. i'm all for torching limos or punching nazis but something about treating the images as a "balm", "solace" or "moment of zen" is just pathetic.
idk maybe it is harmless or even necessary - and i am struggling to explain my vague intuitions here - but i can't shake the feeling that there's something toxic about it. losing to the right sucks, but creating a loser culture to comfort yourself just makes things worse
cars posted:the left is stronger in the united states than it has ever been in my lifetime and probably since decades before then too, don't know what to make of gobbledygook about the left "losing" from anyone except people who think hillary clinton is a communist
well i agree with the first part. i am actually optimistic about the future and the left is much stronger than it was, but that's relaive to a terrible starting point and i think there's still a long way to go. maybe the momentum of the war is starting to turn but we're still losing almost every battle.
