i don't really try to 'convince' anyone in real life, at least not in an aggressive argumentative sense. i give them my take on recent events if it comes up. i talk about world history and the role of communism and people like fidel castro in a positive way (or at least non-demonising). im guessing most of us operate within liberal bubbles, people are willing to hear "fidel castro did a lot of positive things for cuba" over "stalin did nothing wrong" so be measured and try to put things into historical context. does the average person even know who fulgencio batista was? tell them because it makes the 26th july movement far more understandable for them

moments like this trump thing are useful because you can slip in some more radical stuff without people really even batting an eye. for example i've talked about obama's role in ramping up deportations (as compared to the Bush years) and creating an entire deportation infrastructure which the trump admin can now take for their own purposes:

https://www.thenation.com/article/the-deportation-machine-obama-built-for-president-trump/

then you say something like "trump shouldnt always be analysed as some sort of freak aberration because he will mostly be the figurehead of a whole political and economic infrastructure which is fairly constant between the two parties". articles like this can often be found in perfectly 'respectable' bourgeois press if you keep an eye out, so you dont have to be citing globalresearch.ca or w/e.

if you know the person well enough you can speak directly to them about stuff that really matters.to them in their day-to-day lives. one of my relatives, for example, has been working the same repetitive factory job for the past 25+ years. would he care about a long rant about israel/palestine? probably not. but he was interested in Marx's theory of alienation because he's directly experienced it.

edit: by "liberal bubble" i mean that most rhizzone posters friends and acquaintances are probably liberals rather than conservatives. not that we're not in orgs or w/e because it seems most of us are. i read that part back and it seemed snarkier than i meant.

Is it actualy written by an INdustiral Light and Magic guy because that's absurd

somewhere buried underground on the ranch is video proof of george lucas being told that racist aliens are good. And it is the mission of the Rhizzone to find that video and shakily record it in portrait mode on our phones.
#9
I hope the whole movie is portrait that would be radical
#10
everyone should read "Black Easter" and "A Case of Conscience"
#11
like... tpaine who likes that guy's videos on The Thing. his idea about The Thing is probably lifted from A Case of Conscience.

A Canticle for Liebowitz is good
#13
Yes that is also good. it's what those books make me think of.

What do u think about when ideologies are forced into scarcity yet maintain some kind of legitimacy in the eyes of their followers, do they become more potent, do they seep further into the mind of the believer, become more radical and take on a more preservationist attitude? Will the end of liberalism cause a spike in the publishing of biographies about the leaders of these movements? I ask because i've never cared nor felt partial to any of these ideals that suddely feel challenged.

Will capitalism make a bunch of Time Capsules? That wwould be cool

Someone please write me a science fiction story about the Pavers a race of aliens that live at much faster speeds and much lower densities than humans. They operate machines that appear to us like destructive ball lightning that leave near-zero-friction carbon roads about a foot wide. Obstruct or damage a road and it gets fixed in seconds by construction crews - if you stand in a roadway your foot is likely to be cut off and carted away. These roadways start appearing all over the place, cutting through animate and inanimate matter, carving down hillsides, dramatically endangering all life on earth. Humans eventually figure out a way to communicate with the aliens, the chief challenge being that they get wicked bored even with our fastest messages which still seem ludicrously slow to them - anyway all they like to do is drive around and fuck and squabble with each other, and the dense network of roadways are necessary to maintain the pace of fucking and squabbling. And scientists finally talk to a Paver who is somewhat sympathetic in that they say "Wow, well... that really sucks for you all. I'll bring it up at a council meeting and get back to you" and they just don't ever get a followup from anyone

It's kind of messed up that after a decade in the biz & becoming the holly wood "it" girl, respected for her art house dramatics & box office pull alike, after becoming the most desired woman in the world (were talking like.. 2012 here I think??) scarjo used her mojo and pull to make endless weirdo sci-fi movies where she plays an alien or robot.
#24
I guess it's not messed up. It's just an observation I made and wanted to share. Have a good day everyone.
