moments like this trump thing are useful because you can slip in some more radical stuff without people really even batting an eye. for example i've talked about obama's role in ramping up deportations (as compared to the Bush years) and creating an entire deportation infrastructure which the trump admin can now take for their own purposes:
https://www.thenation.com/article/the-deportation-machine-obama-built-for-president-trump/
then you say something like "trump shouldnt always be analysed as some sort of freak aberration because he will mostly be the figurehead of a whole political and economic infrastructure which is fairly constant between the two parties". articles like this can often be found in perfectly 'respectable' bourgeois press if you keep an eye out, so you dont have to be citing globalresearch.ca or w/e.
if you know the person well enough you can speak directly to them about stuff that really matters.to them in their day-to-day lives. one of my relatives, for example, has been working the same repetitive factory job for the past 25+ years. would he care about a long rant about israel/palestine? probably not. but he was interested in Marx's theory of alienation because he's directly experienced it.
edit: by "liberal bubble" i mean that most rhizzone posters friends and acquaintances are probably liberals rather than conservatives. not that we're not in orgs or w/e because it seems most of us are. i read that part back and it seemed snarkier than i meant.

swampman posted:Someone please write me a science fiction story about the Pavers a race of aliens that live at much faster speeds and much lower densities than humans. They operate machines that appear to us like destructive ball lightning that leave near-zero-friction carbon roads about a foot wide. Obstruct or damage a road and it gets fixed in seconds by construction crews - if you stand in a roadway your foot is likely to be cut off and carted away. These roadways start appearing all over the place, cutting through animate and inanimate matter, carving down hillsides, dramatically endangering all life on earth. Humans eventually figure out a way to communicate with the aliens, the chief challenge being that they get wicked bored even with our fastest messages which still seem ludicrously slow to them - anyway all they like to do is drive around and fuck and squabble with each other, and the dense network of roadways are necessary to maintain the pace of fucking and squabbling. And scientists finally talk to a Paver who is somewhat sympathetic in that they say "Wow, well... that really sucks for you all. I'll bring it up at a council meeting and get back to you" and they just don't ever get a followup from anyone
sounds like a job for the author of SPOOKS
