Hi yall my name is Belphegor, I just signed up for this thing and I wanted to introduce myself and share the tale of how I found this place.

I'm a Canadian Uni student and my politics have moved leftward of late and I am trying to educate myself.

I had been googling 'Malcolm Harris' because I was looking into the leftist drama surrounding him and the best piece I found on the whole mess was this: Fuck The New Inquiry and Other Tales/

I read some of the publications and writers criticized in the piece but I found I really liked the cut of this guy jools' jib. So I started lurking around here and found out that y'all are pretty funny and smart and woke and produce TOP CONTENT. I asked for a username and so here I am.

I have a few questions:
Is this jools person still around?
What do you think about N+1, The New Inquiry and/or Jacobin magazine?
I like them but I get the sense that there are quite a few lefties who hate them, and I would love to hear your thoughts.

Communist greetings! Jools last appeared about a month ago to call us insane, but as mentioned you can and should follow him on twitter, and he could probably be summoned back here for a bit using the proper rituals

Jacobin isn't particularly revolutionary and it put out an awful lot of liberal Bernie content, so it's bound to get a lot of backlash from more revolutionary types, like most here are. Considering the current state of the American left, though, I reckon it has a positive utility thanks to it playing a role in mainstreaming some leftist ideas, giving some good ideas a credible platform and wide exposure.

There wasn't a huge falling out I don't think, but he's no longer a fan. He still has his account and could pop in if he felt like it

That sounds like a fair take. I mean, it's part of the reason why I found this place and why I started actually reading Capital Vol. 1. The Canadian left is none to robust either (I'm Canadian) and even though Jacobin' articles can be a mixed bag I agree it is a net positive.

i was hoping there was gonna be some anti-monarchy protests or rallys while the inbred duke was here but i didn't hear about anything. i was busy with work anyway because i have actual responsibilities unlike some people i could name

this is true but we mean 'spectacular' in the situationist sense. so we project large question marks on the side of buildings basically.
