apparently during the transliteration process of the Canadian PM's surname, the surname ended up becoming the mandarin word for potato (土豆, tǔdòu) because names are mostly transliterated syllable by syllable. the canadian PM has now been associated with the most memed food of the western world.

and to differentiate Justin from his father, the Canadian who established formal diplomatic ties with the PRC, Justin Trudeau became "small potato" and his father is regarded as "big potato". i think this situation is even more amusing when considering that the mandarin word for potato literally translates into "earth bean" so I suppose that would make Justin Trudeau "small earth bean".

i would've really liked to see the name Trudeau transliterated as 途痘/túdòu which means "road pimple", or maybe even 吐蚪/tùdǒu which is "vomiting tadpole". imagine what that'd do to sino-canadian relations.

A final fact about Vayno is that the letters of his last name can spell voyna, the Russian word for war. Is this the message that Putin is sending? Will there be war? articles and blog posts have asked. This would not ordinarily warrant mention, but in the era of the nooscope all things seem to take on meaning, and hundreds of Russian bloggers have become preoccupied with the anagram.

Most of my classmates, even the ones who have traveled to China, are completely ignorant of current events and trends on the Mainland, so I'm just going to start referring to Trudeau as the little potato with no context
