hey just a reminder to always run a court records check on your potential landlord before signing a lease (at least if they're free in your state). usually what you're looking out for is a bunch of evictions and/or plaintiff status on small claims to let you know if you're looking at a litigatious slumlord. in the case of the lease i was about to just sign it was several counts of felony contractor theft, which was concerning for us since the house was totally gutted and he needs to spend the next couple months making it possible to move in rather than dealing with the very serious criminal trial scheduled a month out and/or spending several years in jail afterwards. either way tho, knowledge is power, and don't doubt for second that they're doing it to you

It Depends on how/whether your lease addresses holdover month-to-months and on state and municipal law. googling around for a legitimate looking tenants right/advocacy org in your state/city usually brings up FAQs and, if you're a little lucky, hotlines

accessible tenant information hotlines are doing the lord's work. a good friend worked at one for a while before it was defunded.

i went to a thing that was non ironically called "socialist comedy night". there were only like 80 people there, though it was packed to capacity. stewart lee showed up and yelled at us about being a marxist cell.
