Are we alone? Is there another inside joke marxist-leninist forum out there?

In college i picked as one of the few science and maths electives required to a liberal arts student a class which was nebulous and unsciency enough for me to skip and still pass. It was on extraterrestrial life and was taught by a man who i later learned was a preeminent and highly regarded astronomer. As the man who taught the only class on the subject at a large university with a well regarded astronomy program, I would venture my uninformed guess that his view was the "mainstream" one (and also makes the most sense to me.) It was basically that no matter if there is other intelligent life due to the vastness of space we will never encounter it because the chance of them being situated close enough for either species to reach the other before extinction is absurdly low.

Is this the case for us? Are we alone, or Is the internet so vast that, maybe in French somewhere a Canadien and a man from Wallonia who have never met are making a joke about some dude who writes for Vice Paris? There are literally dozens of websites and many are communist, but is there another joke communist millenial forum - and even if there is will their cyberuniverse ever intertwine with ours?

Do we have the capacity to monitor twitter 24 hours a day to make sure we can rule out the possibility that someone isnt pwning Graeber in Dutch while the Americans are sleeping? Of course not. Until we find definitive proof of such an extra-forums entity we can only speculate.

i forget what i was looking for but i recently came across this

i don't know if they really are anarchists or if that's an inside joke. the forum has like millions of posts

although i see they struggle against incorrect thought as well

They may well be displaying a level of brutalism unseen much since the days of the Genghis Khan or Nazi Germany, but they probably do have a point about Sykes-Picot. More and more I think that global capitalism is leading us all into distopia. The West carved up the world to suit it's own ends and of course some other people are well fucked off about it. Can't we try and wean ourselves off our dependence on Middle-Eastern oil? That may entail not driving our stupid cars around so much or something, but surely that is better than the alternative?

Oil? Wtf has oil to do with isis?

it would be like the episode of the simpsons when they go to shelbyville and find out the kids there are just different versions of bart, milhouse, nelson, etc

Sagan once hypothesized (during the cold war) that maybe other intelligent species developed but the reason we havent detected any kind of EM transmissions from anywhere is that they all tend to wipe themselves out after reaching a certain level of technological development. I for one think we have much to learn from such beings.

Imo if we encountered proof of alien life it would be self reproducing robots so basically VokMishiok was made by a marxist forum 10 years ago and just moves from forum to forum reporting back on anu intelligent life it finds to its masters who got real jobs and registered as dems years ago
#17
I wish the aliens would hurry up and get here already
#18
real aliens are a bunch of cylindrical blobs, like the theory that flying saucers aren't enclosures for humanoid beings, they're just flying manta rays.

i.s. shklovsky is the guy you need to read before you can even pretend you know what the hell you're talking about on this topic, as usual USSR did it best
#20
how anyone here has read Sagan but missed Shklovsky i have no idea guess it's time to bring 'basic' back
#21
Naw that dudes alien stuff js mad dumb / one of the reasons ancient aliens shit exists
#22
so definitely time to bring basic back lol....
#23
when a u.s. grad student asked shklovsky in the 1970s whether people in the USSR saw UFOs, he said no, that's one area where the US is far in advance of us lol. you are probably thinking of his & Sagan's idle wondering about Dagon from the 60s which is basically nothing like you think it is / heard it was / whatever
#24
cars, recomend whats best to read 1st, he wrote a bunch
#25
Lol ya im a grown ass man whos gonna read a whole book or more than 5 words about space
#26
the English translation of Universe Life Intelligence is pretty good. Sagan had enough respect to clearly mark his own interpolations. the understanding of him based on a couple jokes of his from the 50s and 60s is Wikipedia level Cold War propaganda, he was a globally respected and beloved planetary scientist & as good an impression of him as any is found in his fictionalized representation in "Contact" which is still shot through with Sagan's prejudices. pretty much any time a Soviet scientist cracked a joke it was treated by American academia as those crazy pseudos & their dialectical materialism, Sagan had little patience for that though. that is unless people are confusing him with Velikovsky here which would just be sad.

#32
