I keep looking at this and thinking... what an odd strategy. Like take the top 30 or so states by population and realize that electing friendly socialists wouldn't be enough for.... socialist reforms to the slaveholders' constitution? You're setting yourself up to fail, folks.

check out this autopsy-turvy post from lf

This week the shriveled husk of million term United States Senator and malevolent lich Jesse Helms was sealed in a bleak crypt deep beneath the sands of his native Stygia, North Carolina. Flowers placed on his grave by grieving shitheads withered and died within seconds.

Helms, known to friends and slaves alike as an unredeemed racist, was famous in the Senate for his passionate defense of segregation, opposition to the civil and voting rights acts, and his black crusade against the sun and all things which draw life from it.

As one of the first conservative talk radio hosts of the 1960’s Helms pioneered the technique of getting poor stupid whites to vote against their own interests by tricking them into hulking the fuck out over black people, immigrants, and the betrayal of the Confederacy by Jews, liberals, and the hated abstract concept of literacy. He went on to parley his repulsive backwoods celebrity with the curbstomp set into a long career in government where he played a prominent role in the unbelievably vicious and petty dixiecrat movement. His leadership resulted in a fundamental realignment of the American domestic political scene over the question of just how much we should hate n*ggers (”A whole lot”, contended Helms).

Long considered a strong contender for “worst person in the entire world” Helms in his declining years began to find that limited title constraining. Last summer recess he gathered together all the educated mulattos and wizened negro shaman from the swamps and dungeons of his grim feudal demesne and began a search for the blackest of black tomes, arts, and metal. That search culminated last week in his ascension to lichdom with the completion of a vile phylactery in the form of a fat lipped bejeweled bone sambo, pulsating with false life and the rhythm of hot jungle beats. His triumph over death itself coincides with a departure from this plane of existence for the astral realms, where he will spend the next thousand years pursuing recognition as the “worst person in the entire metaverse.”

Here on Earth Helms will be remembered as a southern gentleman, a family man, and the kind of guy that’ll eventually turn out to have dozens of child sized skeletons buried in his yard and whose family members when interviewed will say they thought he just liked collecting tiny shoes.

Personally I think this stuff is good. I mean, we have plenty of young people that are saying capitalism isn't working, we need to try new things, the political establishment is working against us. The big difference between us is that we're further along the revolutionary path, since we know that the whole system is about preventing rapid change. These people don't, but they are goin to find out. Sure, some will be disillusioned , but some are going to be pissed when they realize the system is about the maintenance of class control. Those should be the ones we focus our attention on. It's like complaining about people in the Students for a Democratic Society. Sure, not all of them are going to become Weathermen (or women), but some of them will. We should focus on that. Less, these people are all stooges, let's make fun of them, more, these people are moving down the path towards revolution, let's establish friendly communications, so that when the disappointment comes, we can help them further radicalize, and prevent them from falling into a reactionary trap.

why not poke fun and support their struggles..... that's what i always say.

if we want a decent welfare state the US Constitution will essentially have to be bypassed some way or another:

It stands to reason that a document drafted by a coterie of gilded gentry, openly contemptuous of “democracy” and panicked by what they saw as the mob rule of the 1780s, would seek to constrict popular sovereignty to the point of strangulation. Thus, brilliantly and subtly, the system they built rendered it virtually impossible for the electorate to obtain a concerted change in national policy by a collective act of political will. The Senate is an undemocratic monstrosity in which 84 percent of the population can be outvoted by the 16 percent living in the smallest states. The passage of legislation requires the simultaneous assent of three separate entities — the presidency, House, and Senate — that voters are purposely denied the opportunity to choose at one time, with two-thirds of the Senate membership left in place after each election. The illogical electoral college gears the whole combat of presidential elections around a few, almost randomly determined, swing states that happen to contain evenly balanced numbers of Democrats and Republicans. And the entire system is frozen in amber by an amendment process of almost comical complexity. Whereas France can change its constitution anytime with a three-fifths vote of its Congress and Britain could recently mandate a referendum on instant runoff voting by a simple parliamentary majority, an amendment to the U.S. Constitution requires the consent of no less than thirty-nine different legislatures comprising roughly seventy-eight separately elected chambers.

none of this is to argue that Western Europe is a paradise, but it may explain why the US will likely never get universal health care.

yeah and the american constitution is such a religious artifact at this point that that will never happen short of actual revolution, not the pleasant voting depicted in that elementary school poster
#573
declaring a convention is a neat sidestep tbh. its volatile tho, it hasnt been done since the drafters of the current one were told to come up with some minor changes to the articles of confederation and they came back with an entirely new system of government

This is why most people would agree the first amendment shouldn't apply to communist speech.

ya its good that ppl are talking about capitalism being bad even if they are wedarted bern bros yet people have short attention spans, and after the election is over with less people will be disgruntled with capitalism and most will go back to loving capitalism a lot. luring liberal friends into socialist thought is only working if they are naturally very left leaning anyway. otherwise it`s like a hare krishna trying to make u eat their blessed vegan cookies and buy a copy of the bhagavad gita

Sorry, but what the hell? Are people just born left-leaning, and if they aren't, they never will be? Certainly there has been a lot of attempted programming of people, but isn't that the idea behind re-education camps? Something would have to change, for people to change their focus. I'm not denying the existence of revolutionary waves, and that people may grow more complacent after the election, but that's exactly what I'm talking about. That's the point of establishing contact, so we can further radicalize them. I think half of us here know people can be radicalized, since we all saw how laissez faire affected that community.
