Paris attack not the most important factor in the rise of the National Front:

"Renzi’s remarks came as the National Front in France came out first both in terms of votes and in terms of regions in recent local elections in France. Final numbers indicate Le Pen secured first place with nearly 30% of the nationwide vote.

In essence, Renzi is questioning the dominant narrative that it is the Paris attacks that propelled Le Pen at the helm of French politics and opinion polls. Evidence is on his side. Since February 2015, the Front National never fared below 29%, which suggests that in fact the attacks in Paris had very little to do with the electoral result. If anything, the peak of Front National was in March 2015, when Odoxa gave FN 33%."
