today at work one of my coworkers needed to use my card to open the door to somewhere and before i could say anything they just walked up to me as i was sitting down on the computer, grabbed it from my chest, and walked away. i did say "yeah, sure" as they were walking away though. i didn't even think about it at the time, but now that i am home sitting in bed i'm thinking that was really hilarious lol.

hey this was an interesting topic. so, i think this is true and i think that in almost every situation people aren't getting 100% of the full spectrum of bourgeois values and the gaps suggest underlying material circumstances in their lives. like i was raised with a kind of double-vision about what i achieved, that was up one lane, the normal petty-bourgeois aspirational four freedoms you can do anything and should be proud of yourself liberal autonomy story, and then up the other, a beyond-liberal critique of the entire idea that anyone ever earned anything in a world of wretched sin.

what really ran under that was the class position of my family's history, which came from a position of a lot of bitterness over being treated like shit in another region of the country for being poor, and the way the democratic party worked within that community and exploited it, and the drive to become white people. and that later became an opportunity for me to see a lot of what was told to me, even by 99%er liberal types, with an eye toward skepticism, like, don't you know what the bible says about riches? why are you pulling your punches? which doesn't make me a good lefty but made communism seem okay to me instead of evil.

a lot of science jobs can be done with far less actual scientific knowledge than the university circuit requires if you're computer savvy enough to figure out how to run someone's extremely specialized custom program for some arcane task. i have a friend who does forensic chemistry and never even finished his bachelors, which drives up the wall his coworkers with masters degrees since he has seniority and will forever be further up the payscale than them

in a lot of science-oriented places your pay is capped by your education level.
