You guys have to check this out. I found this while reading an article on the washington post website.

It tries to be rational, logical and decent while appealing to the humanity of the marines. It even shows a map with an elementary school showing the negative affect the base is having on children and also how the construction of a marine base would "destroy a beautiful coral reef ecosystem and the habitat of the critically endangered Okinawa dugong (sea manatee)".

It has neat little facts:

U.S. military bases occupy about 11 % of Okinawa’s total land area. Approximately 19 % of Okinawa main land, where the prefecture’s population and industries are concentrated, is exclusively used by the U.S. military

You guys probably think I'm being sarcastic but I swear I want to give this site a hug. It really made me sad and happy at the same time.

Even though they probably read about the marines massacring 24 civilians in cold blood (including seven children, a toddler, three women and a 76-year-old man in a wheelchair), getting away with it, and then saying they did the right thing these intrepid Okinawans still try to do something like this.

I unironically love you beautiful Okinawan people.
