maybe this doesn't warrant its own thread idk im no good at posting but over the past week or so I was Thinking It Up then today I read this very nice posting
http://manyfesto.org/2015/10/20/only-a-person-with-no-sense-of-history-or-sense-in-their-head-thinks-the-world-is-better-off-without-a-communist-superpower/
and thought hell I'll go ahead and post something and maybe get owned to hell and back who gives a shit

so because i got a stupid tiny chicken brain and don;t really know anything and was originally just going to ask a question or two ill keep this simple:

It occurred to me that Russia, still not too long ago th3e most important and influential locus of socialism in the history of the gay earth, is probably the most ripe and ready place to go about building socialism*; in no small part because it's a modern nation literally built on socialism and has a large population that seems to overwhelmingly prefer its socialist past and harbour goodtime attitudes in general about the USSR and communism. It also has the resources and nice big strong military that's already arguably the biggest bulwark against Empire today, defense of Syria being the most available and obvious example atm. I could go on about shit I don't really know much about but there's definitely people who know way more about Russia and hte pragmatic obstacles that would stand in the way of socialism being restored there and the eventual reestablishment of a Union of Soviets (I would assume mostly political and killing lots of capitalists). But I honestly believe it's not unrealistic at this point to look to Russia as the potential site of rebuilding a powerful global communist opposition to capitalist hegemony

*Not anti-China at all and in some respects I still think China might be more likely to fill this role, given the whole communist party being in power and stuff, and I'm much more optimistic about the prospect of their current and recent developments leading eventually towards more substantial socialism but I still think the rightist deviation with Xiaoping at the very least means a delay past the point where it is 'safe' to wait for and that wanting change and upset in the global order sooner does not at this time constitute an ultraleft position given the dire threat the world is facing. Also the reemergence of a powerful socialist Russia would be pretty much the best thing China could hope for outside of fairytale spontaneous global revolutionary insurrection, and China would obviously continue to be very important and a key ally of socialist Russia in any case.

So uh yeah apologies if i'm stupid and gas this or wahtever, here are the questions i was goign to briefly ask originally:

-what exactly does the state of communist movements in Russia look like today, I think the answer to this remains deliberately obscure to idiots like me for various reasons and I'd love to hear something ,anything, from someone who knows what they're talking about
-whe n do we get started

please ban my ass

"only a person with no sense of history (or sense in their head) thinks the world is better off without a communist superpower"

the word superpower is an insult which means imperialist. people who called the USSR a superpower meant that it was attempting to impose its rule on others. this was the claim of dissident communists like mao.

i think china is way more likely. dengism is probably correct and if socialism is achieved in our lifetime it will almost certainly be by the ccp.

it's hard to know how much of xi's pro-marxist push is complete bullshit, but i still find it encouraging. fwiw i had one really cool chinese history prof who has been visiting china steadily since mao era and he has faith in the party

all chinese schools have marxism departments where people have to memorize like why having mcdonalds is socialist or whatever to get their scholarship or whatever

I think having students learn about Marxism as a living philosophy with practical, contemporary relevanc isn't bad, and maybe better than not

probably true, like how it's good the US constitution has a liberal ideology instead of a straightforward fascist one. even though china is obviously a capitalist country, the pseudo-marxist remnants at least provide some constraint on state actions.

I realised after reading this that I love conspiracy discussion. Like these guys all saying guys I heard a fighter jet fly over my house...it's happening...gets me pumped

Looking at that subreddit it also seems like the conspiracy xommunity is beginning to appreciate how Isis is a U.S. contra, which is encouraging. Potential converts.
