basically a woman who is a star candidate in toronto said we might have to leave some of the oil in the soil if we're going to survive climate change. the campaign quickly helped her remember that what she meant was that we just need some environmental regulations to make sure that anything that digs will extract anything that burns.

then a guy running for the NDP in nova scotia turned out to have posted a comment on facebook once where he said israel was trying to ethnic cleanse palestine and that it might be guilty of war crimes. nothing to worry about, he decided to quit the campaign!

That really was the best thing ever because he shouted the quid pro quo of "campaign donations" to the whole world and described the act of bribery of hundreds of elected officials on live internationally broadcast TV and everyone stood up and clapped

this type of magical thinking, "if we make them reverse the decision to expunge a candidate for taking a stand against genocide, then they retroactively will not be the party of unprincipled careerist frauds they've just revealed themselves to be" is required to be part of the NDP. I think they make you sign a form and everything

update for non canadians, there's a trial going on where the prime minister's former chief of staff is getting grilled in a fraud and bribery case. so some lawyers got a hold of emails where the prime minister's office basically said "hello senate, i see you're writing a 'non-partisan' committee report. well, this is what it will look like at the end, have a nice day " and "ah i see you're doing an audit. well, this is what it will say when that's done too. thanks in advance "

the central thing is coming down to the government conspired to lie to the public by tampering with reports, audits, sending money around, and instructing everyone to say flat out lies for months. not that it is even about anything important, it's about senate expenses, but perhaps the thing is no one thought it was important enough to not write in an email "Senator x wanted this in writing, but I told her that wasn't going to happen - I think she gets it now" and "I sent the cheque"

anyway, irrelevant us puppet state continues to be run by irrelevant gong show government. back to your regularly scheduled rhizzone

The Conservatives were third place in a poll but I think their plan is to absorb a bunch of blows and then basically release the kraken. The kraken is millions of dollars of advertising when the other parties are broke.

as far as i can tell the mainline communists will be running candidates in less than 10% of districts and the somewhat wackier communists will be running candidates in about 20% of districts. the maoists are running a boycott campaign again. all of them have a lot of ideological output about this that.... exaggerates their importance.

will you be joining one of the parties to help campaign for a cooler future? when i was in the sp(e&w) in cardiff there were lots of cute and intelligent girls my age that i lacked the confidence to talk to socially but it was nice to be around them!

i'm not involved in any of the election campaigns and i probably won't get involved in that. i have met a bunch of leftoids recently though which has been a lot of fun. i go outside like a big boy a lot now that i'm not depressed. i'm still pretty anxious but whatever.

i have never understood the propaganda strategy of being wildly unrealistic in your goals to the point that it's a joke. it happens with both small and big parties/movements and it only works if people are both completely uninformed and know they are completely uninformed, any combination of either being or thinking you know anything results in any message you might have besides "vote for me!!!! please!!!!!!! i will say or do anything!!!" is gone. otoh, that's accurate, so i guess it's fine

well it is complicated but basically my new therapist was both insightful and unorthodox. and i started to accept that my primary problem was depression instead of anxiety (in DSM style talk). and i started talking about that one day and she had an insight over the cause and threatened to basically fire me unless i proved to her i wanted to change. and i did want to change so i recognized that my whole "recovery" process was part of a strategy of resisting change to handle anxiety which was keeping me depressed. so i told my parent my new plans, knowing my dad would melt down, he did and i held firm, and the next day i felt much less depressed. i started volunteering a bit in april and trying various things, many of which failed but whatever, and by early may they closed my file at the hospital. a few weeks ago i went for a four day camping trip with strangers and it went great. so i'm feeling positive about that.

i'm going back to school in a few days. i've done all the weird bureaucratic steps and financial decisions that make this inevitable unless, of course, society collapses before then, and we all hope and pray that it will.
