Keven is a good addition to a national comedy program because he's both Cal Ripken and Barry Bonds (baseball analogy). He'll show up every day and spoof the news and provide sharp commentary on cultural touchstones. But he also can hit it out of the park with the sorts of sketches that people will talk about for years. If you want an MVP on your comedy team, look no further than Keven.

A national comedy show is like a shark - it must constantly move forward or it dies. It's not enough to recruit new blood. You've got to be one step ahead of the audience, so that they are willing to follow you into what I call "Laughsville". You've got to build the road to Laughsville with sturdy materials like timely references and mind-blowing insights. Comedy, which is tragedy plus time, is all about surprise. And who will surprise you more than Keven?

Sam Kriss, who we all read, love and respect, posted this the other day, which some might take as a cynical implication, but I'll assume was meant in a spirit of camaraderie. You can read more Sam Kriss articles on his 'blog at samkriss.wordpress.com where he delightfully clowns on bourgeois culture from the viper-tongued perspective of an ironic dandy. Sam Kriss would make a great addition to the line-up of columnists at a major daily like The Guardian, especially if you give him time to build a wider audience and let him take some chances with more abstract work.
