like i mean i was trained to hate things. had it ingrained in me. over the course of almost a decade now, in an english boys school where the sons of working-class thatcher voters who owned their council homes and those of cautiously blairite lawyers dentists and bank managers coexisted with barely disguised mutual disgust and contempt, the word "gay" hung so thick in the air it barely needed to be vocalized, one perceived it like a stench. everything short of contemptuous abuse was gay. if you liked or cared about anything, you were gay. if you agreed with anyone with anything you were gay, unless it was about something else being gay. if you took turns vigorously fucking one of your more amenable classmates during snatched moments in the changing room toilets, you were definitely incredibly gay. respect was gay. appreciation was gay. vulnerability was gay. good faith was gay. and admitting that anything in this whole gay world could possible be good or beautiful or important, even as much as a bullshit podcast by some asshole who sells tickets at the theatre, was and is and remains the gayest fucking thing in creation. douglas lain is gay. this is a gay podcast. be gay and listen to the gayness because god damn it we are all completely fucking gay
