Straw Man
Posted by HenryKrinkle on February 14, 2004
A phrase commonly used in D&D to describe a type of logical fallacy, and used in other forums to mock D&D. A Straw Man is committed whenever someone attacks a distorted or exaggerated version of someone else's position, and acts as if they had disproved the real position. Hence the metaphor, since you are not attacking the actual position, you are attacking a "Straw Man" version of it that you created.
