it's the labor process of scientific or intellectual production. to give a real simple example, you could solve an algebra problem by process of elimination on the variables, if you wanted, or you could solve it by applying a formula. the only difference is method. it's part of the material conditions that determine scientific production.

real science chat

Spoiler!
I want to invite rhizzone posters to submit their ideas for revolutionary concepts in space flight for the NASA NIAC program. they changed their program slightly to reallllly lower the bar on entry.

All that's needed is a two page white paper for an architectural concept that greatly changes the way space flight is done.

The site is here: http://www.nasa.gov/offices/oct/early_stage_innovation/niac/
You'll need to sign up for NSPIRES, the NASA online proposal site thingy: https://nspires.nasaprs.com

Dear Dr. Mistersix:

Thank you for submitting the proposal entitled "Terraforming Mars with the Recently Ensalved Bourgeoisie" to the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) NASA Research Announcement (NRA). I regret to inform you that your proposal was not selected for funding. It was a very competitive process this year; many highly-rated proposals could not be funded. This was not one of them.
