apparently these are meant to be boko haram sex slaves saying 'dont take our benefits!'. now ive heard it said that charlie hebdo covers usually took 2 unrelated news stories of the week, in this case boko haram sex slaves and the debate around cutting benefits for 'welfare queens', and just mashed em up. so it's been argued that this sort of cover isnt actually racist bc its not meant to be making fun of the women depicted, but the news of the day. this is some kind of french tradiiton of humor, allegedly. the problem still remains that it is not funny. and to be clear, i do beleive that unfunny people deserve to be killed, and i look forward to seeing every rhizzone poster in hell very soon.

okay, so, leaving aside the obviously racist material, in what sense is it not islamophobic to almost exclusively depict muslims as extremists, call the quran shitty, and show mohammed being fucked up the ass? just curious about your hot take.
Most of the cartoons are actually Mohammad being way more moderate than the extremists, (who they discuss, just like you, ten times more than regular muslims because they're in the news), I couldn't care less about the second one which is an obvious joke, and the third didn't happen.

Well this is the problem. It's really boring and tame Mad Magazine cartoons and the only ways they're discussed are either as brave hilarious satire or vile racist propaganda, and I'm stuck here in the middle as usual being the only rational person on earth, an internet Socrates.

technically you're right, he's not being fucked up the ass. i apologise for remembering this one incorrectly.
thanks for libsplaining french satire to me, jon stewart. i now understand, this sort of thing, is not vile garbage, but actually a v important stand, against the extremists, who would murder our freedoms.

i am, they all look some shit ken fisher drew to make fun of them
so anti-muslim jokes/art are a different kettle of monkeys from homophobic, antisememtic ones.
(i spent much of my sunday arguing with liberals about this, ugh)

Good job making a fool of yourself by defending homophobia and anti-semitism I guess.

I dont have to be personally offended to have the opinion that it's dumb, unnecessary, and harmful. Context is kind of important for meaning, right? And i take the context of charlie hebdo into account: it's french and therefore apparently can not be judged by regular human standards of humor. But its also published in a country where there is a large muslim minority who are significantly oppressed by the state and also under constant threat of right wing violence. And now of course republished around the world ad nauseam, without the benefit of whatever the french sense of humor adds to this stuff. The new context of the cartoons runs the gamut from mainstream publications talking about not being cowed by 'Islamic fascism', to stuff like this: http://www.barenakedislam.com/2015/01/08/the-best-of-charlie-hebdo/
In short: The Liberal, c'est toi.
Lessons posted:Also you guys have no clue what liberalism is here. All the "these jokes are NOT OKAY!!" stuff is liberalism (though not always the really noxious variety) and the difference between you and CNN is that you're apply an insane standard where you judge the acceptability of a racist joke by contemporary race death metrics while CNN uses the CIA handbook.
we are not a monolith.

They're dumb but probably didn't hurt anybody besides the Hebdo staff, anyway I'm just saying they're not racist and all the stuff to that effect is super contrived.

Could you expand on this point.
daddyholes posted:except we just showed you where they were racist and you admitted it, but whatever
You showed me a new cartoon on a different subject that I thought was racist, and for all I know Charlie Hebdo reprinted Mein Kampf, but that's obviously not relevant to whether the controversial Mohammad cartoons were racist.

I don't think liberals are particularly bad when they're telling people off over racism.
I mean, how is it liberal to say what Ive been saying, which for clarity is that the cartoons were stupid and harmful.

The answer is Mohammad who is really reasonable, though he does have a beard.

that's a cool ref there but it's exactly what you did? idk i thought you were going to actually bring a counterpoint here but instead you just reverted to the same argument you already lost, i try to give you credit here but its difficult

I especially like the one about a Film That Offends Muslims, where a reasonably naked Mohammed is reasonably offering up his ass hole to a film camera, and quite reasonably asking, "do you like my ass??". Oh Mohammed, you sure showed those wacky extremists, lol.
