well fine but i dont see how that pertains to puritanism, hedonists are far more preachy and pushy in my experience, since their values and lifestyles are institutionalized in capitalism whereas puritanism requires the sovereignty of church and community

the idea that puritans never had fun is ridiculous tbh. they werent even anti-sex or anything. these are deeply engrained stereotypes in post-settler nationhoods that say a lot about what our present values are, that they require this sort of launching pad and a certain trajectory of increasing "progress" coupled to hedonism and anarchy etc.

I don't think hedonism is neccesarily a bad thing though. You only have one life and sometimes reckless gay abandon is just what the doctor ordered

enjoying life is good, wasting life is bad. hedonism is wastefulness

I look at it a bit more subjectively than that. More wasteful than what exactly: learning? Disciplining oneself? A waste of a metaphysical spirit? I don’t quite understand.

I mean it’s pretty rare that people will find some great spiritual transcendence through hedonism but so what, a lot of people fail to find it elsewhere too.

I don't see why it has to be bad for mental patients to shit themselves, if anything it shows that they are more in touch with the Real than us. What is more liberating, more existentially human than wallowing in feces?

Seems more 'logical' than say, wearing a black, all-encompassing garment in the middle of the desert.
