reading prisoner appeals being denied is really cool. some guy in a cell 21 hours a day manages to heroically coordinate a coherent legal argument somehow and then a team of people hired by the state to defend it from even the most pathetic, symbolic losses writes a fifteen page appeal with numerous citations, each one of which would cost the prisoner ten dollars to even view because there's no copy of the utah code at the prison and the state law library has to copy the prisoner what he requests at like fifty cents a page, plus postage. and after all that they deny the prisoners appeal on the most insulting, unreasonable technical grounds they can possibly concoct and tell the prisoner he has a month to do all that over again or his right to complain is taken away. in one case the prisoner sued the lady who censored his mail and the state's argument was "well her incorrect interpretation of the law was reasonable, therefore she's excused from liability, and seeing as how this case now has no defendant it's closed" its like computer programming or something. its so ridiculous. error error defendant not found

i've been thinking more & more about going to law school because of the unending torrent of bullshit that people have to deal with. otoh that seems to implicitly accept that the legal system is the correct framework by which to resolve inequality and inhumanity. but then idk what else to do.
does your volunteer work make you feel better, or worse? i suppose helping people out is better than not.

yeah helping in any small way is important and I do feel more at peace now that I'm typing things I'm sent and sending them back to a guy way out in . but descending in to the minutiae of law is like hiking to the top of a huge mountain and looking over the other side on a 4k foot drop ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notch_Peak#mediaviewer/File:NotchPeak.jpg ) it is sort of frightening to see the levels of repression directed at the most vulnerable, destitute, clueless people. proletarian dictatorship now.
