Some type of state is required while society moves from capitalism to socialism, otherwise, you risk capitalism reproducing itself via atavism (i.e. concentrations of capital in hands of a few, leading towards a new bourgeoisie). Is M-L(-M) actually better about this though? The most developed and general M-L theory on the transition from capitalism to socialism is The State and Revolution - which is both remarkably libertarian and (at the time) incredibly attractive to anarchists - yet it had almost nothing to do with how the state actually operated in the USSR or Mao's China, or really any Actually Existing communist state anywhere. It's really more that M-Ls have a remarkable track record of success in achieving state power, though of course given that this control was completely rolled back to a single (or maybe a couple, if you count the DPRK) state almost as quickly as it appeared there's probably reason to be skeptical.
~70 years is "almost as quickly as it appeared"? we didnt even have, like, cars 70 years ago. thats a long time. I mean have you lived for 70 years? You've only been an imperialist for like 23 years or whatever. We all know seven decades is extremely long
As you can see, the Anarchist Ally, the macho man randy savage, is a wildman but he lives and acts on a clear set of morals. He might not want to seize the means of production but he could certainly set up donald trump for a vicious elbow drop or hit Hillary with an illegal object while the ref isn't looking.

isn't modern day "socialism" called "socialism" specifically to try and hide from the specter of 20th century communism and the scary theory that Bad Misunderstood Men wrote?

in the west it seems like a guy with running water and sewer access is worse off than a guy who has a cellphone a pushbike and a cheap radio but shits in a hole in the ground because he paid for them out of pocket while the first guy didnt. i wdnt worry about how things seem in the west
