so are thje privatizers Yes or No? i assumed they wanted to keep Scotland in the UK in order to ensure the ~*Free Flow of Capital*~ across Her majestic border?

I don't mean to say that I'm a big fan of Salmond/SNP but I do think the Yes campaign is making a genuine offer of a less militaristic, more socialist future for Scotland.

all in all though, an unsurprising win after the last 2 weeks' show of force from a united front of the heads of banking & business along with gordon brown, all spouting not-very-thinly-veiled whitehall threats. still, it was exciting to think that the campaign had a chance of getting up because the No camp realised too late how hard they needed to push the propaganda

the independence vote was mobilised on a platform to the left of the 3 national parties (the SNP also ran on this platform in 2010). it was basically an anti-neoliberal platform. this is cool.
a lot of the UK's geostrategic importance depends on scotland. the GIUK gap would become the GIS gap with an independent scotland. this matters because the SNP had a long-standing anti-NATO policy. although they dropped this (albeit leaving the question open), they have kept their anti-nuclear stance. so independent scotland could have meant the end of the UK's nukes altogether. and even joining NATO wouldn't be a foregone conclusion - the SNP's spending plans included defence spending well below that required for NATO members, and simply the fact that it would become an open political issue would have provided a pretty great opportunity to make the argument that joining NATO is a bad idea. given NATO has a secret anti-communist provision, and that it's just fucking bad all round, this would have been cool.
im not sure it was easy to see outside the UK just how insane the ruling class went in the 2 weeks preceding the referendum, as things got much tighter (yes went from barely breaking 40% in the polls to near even). they ended up having to bribe the scottish electorate with promises of the kind of devolution they wanted to avoid in the first place with a straight yes/no question. they had politicians and celebrities posing with saltires everywhere. saltires flying from all public buildings. it was fucking bizarre.

following it daily in the papers in montreal (where, obvs, it's been followed very closely) the sudden hard push and closing of ranks seemed pretty clear. i was really hoping that the attention and realization that it was a possibility might have woken up some people out of their "yeah, that could never happen" and spur them to move to the Yes side, but the fear & pandering seems to have been successful... works here too

had no idea it was happening. I'm a little uncomfortable with seeing police cars that are covered in these stickers to the point where you can't even see that they say Police anymore on parts of them. Like, I get it, you don't steal, ok. (what a passive aggressive slogan, fuck.) I am against anyone's long term benefits getting fucked but I am also unfamiliar with how often the police union shows up to support any other workers. I haven't lived here long enough. I was paying a lot more attention to Scotland.
