right this is an argument about brand appeal of the word socialism within empire which is irrelevant. capitalism and socialism are modes of production and social organization, call it whatever you want, the specific wording is irrelevant to the material realities, movements of people and class struggle

It's not exactly controversial to point out that the collapse of the USSR/Eastern Bloc combined with the revisionism of the PRC hurt socialism guys. If you don't think the "it just doesn't work" crowd having the contemporary ability to highlight that is a contributing element to reaction idk that just doesn't make sense to me.
