Anyone can load this incident up with their own ideology and pet causes but it's right there in the manifesto: when he is 13 and insecure about stuff and with no real male figure to guide him, he retreats into WoW and gets addicted to it.

i'm old enough that I didn't get any internet until i was 14 and it was dialup for the next few years, so was mainly a distraction more than anything and my socialization took place in the real world. Elliot, with an indifferent father, indulgent mother and broadband connection just sort of severed the ties of peer bonding around 13 and spent his formative high school years immersed in the internet.
And it's not really set up like the old days where an introspective, proto-autistic boy would immerse himself in physics, the natural world, history or whatever else he chanced upon in the library. Instead now it's degenerate childhood regression like anime, lists and memes, harmful and enabling messageboards and forums......coated with unlimited access to every nook and cranny of human sexuality, decontextualized and objectified.
So yeah I think that the culture industry is responsible in a way, far more so than whatever the 'Pickup Artist community' is - he hated PUAS.
The information revolution is failing; what could have been a transcendent step forward in human relations has instead simply become the digital equivalent of the California in which it was conceived. A paradise, poisoned by human idiocy and destined to crack from the stress of it's fractures.

well what defines as 10 year old as being a full-on autist? from reading his manifesto it seems like he was socializing ok up until he was a teenager....he might have been a little shy or weird but i'm curious as to what defines the supposed psychiatric label a child of that age and i suspect it's a greedy therapist
libelous_slander posted:a lot of good questions are being asked here. does decadence breed insanity?
i'd say it contributes....particularly somebody who has decadence all around them, is told that that decadence and hedonism is what defines a persons worth, and yet even when they're so close, living on the same streets and going to the same school, it's like there's an invisible barrier: it's a common concept, this 'glass ceiling', kept in place by socialization and gender roles and while it can be overcome, it's presence is enough to discourage many men or women

It cannot be denied that Fascism and similar movements aiming at the establishment of dictatorships are full of the best intentions and that their intervention has, for the moment, saved European civilization. The merit that Fascism has thereby won for itself will live on eternally in history. But though its policy has brought salvation for the moment, it is not of the kind which could promise continued success. Fascism was an emergency makeshift. To view it as something more would be a fatal error.
