i read the amazon preview.... there were bits that were good but other bits were really kinda bad.... limonov reading dude on the bench..... kobebook is a lot better i think

#568
kobebook might be better. the early parts of fuck and destroy are clear ripoffs/pastiche of houellebecq and apparently almost everyone hates the early portion of the book
#569
i mean you have a tendency to constantly show off the books youve read.... i do the same thing, i think i mentioned my using deleuzian terminology in a description of a k-hole for no very good reason.... but it makes a lot more sense in the context of kobebook

the clearest influence in my writing is always going to be the last book i read. unfortunately i'm reading henry miller right now and it's dire, just dire, even though i really love a lot of what he's saying. also he beats women a lot and fucks anything that moves
#571
houllebecq did it better

ugh why'd you add that last bit
#572
i'm glad i could add to this conversation of primordial topics of sex, food, and hides [decay / impact / movement]

ken how do you find yourself rendering the pronunciation of your new fav food. do you drawl a monstrously affected "ba-REED-oh" in pale imitation of your surroundingfolks or do you stubbornly cough up a weirdly aspirated palatal "t" calling up images of a sad grey tube of Gregg's pastry

how is that endorsing it in any way? i didn't realy say anything about it other than that it happened in the book, which i said is dire, which isn't quite an endorsement. as far as those sections actually go though, i sort of cringed in the beating part, sort of like "well, that happened." i'm not sure what to think of it really. but i honestly have no idea how you got that i'm endorsing it from that post lol

He’d need other stuff, too, if he were to be an actual human being, he’d need some subcutaneous tissue, an endocrine system, for instance, and a network of lymphatic ducts, but he’s not an actual human being, just a character, a body without organs, and if you were to cut into him you’d see that below the skin he’s just rubbery and flesh-coloured all the way through, like putty. Oh, if he scrapes his knee he’ll bleed a little, but that’ll just be us telling the stuff to well up at the wound, there are no veins under his skin, unless we decide that one of them should get blocked with atheromas or become varicose.

ugh

basically its going to be an Experiment In Genre Pastiches.... i wanna flex out my voice, try out some different modes and shit

as far as miller goes he's a really bad writer. his sentences suck, he tries way too hard, he goes on truly pointless tangents. but he has a lot to say. he conveys a lot of "attitude," and you can really tell that he's writing "from his time," and that he's well-read. i love the parts when he talks about writing, when he talks about his place in life, when he talks about his hatred of america. there are some parts where he talks about authenticity that come across like a bad joke, especially since laferriere's book "I am a japanese writer" talks about it so much more expertly and easily, and i'm reading them at the same time. there's a part in miller's book where he talks about how much better off he was that his early books were failures.

also he's a much better writer when he's telling other people's stories and not talking about himself. oh yea and apparently 1920s new york was a mega fuckfest

what about the language specifically. like the idea is for this bit to be kinda dry, a formless linguistic void, and then i go into like mad purple prose and absolute minimalism and genre fiction parody and so on

hmMMmm i think it's just the way you string together clauses with commas that i don't like. it's just another way of thinking i guess, i look at it and think of it was too Writerly, too much like an affected Voice. but htat's just me. as u know i litter my writing with all kinds of silly dashes and semicolons
