for the most part i'm on the side of people who call out bad discourse and three fuck yous to anyone in the world who has ever unironically used the acronym"SJW" (and speaking of discourse that somethingsenstive-lite/nerd reactionary shit really seems to be blossoming lately) but i think anyone really active in radical politics really needs to keep one foot in a community of regular people--not to emulate, not because the working class is beautiful but just to keep a stable referent. otherwise, there definitely seems to be a tendency for insular groups of intellectuals to become untethered and float into the distance like a child's balloon

otoh maybe i don't know what i'm talking about, i'm a liberal whose lived experience in radical politics is limited to making a flier for a NLG event one time

A lot of anarchist groups are probably infiltrated and disrupted by the police and FBI. Likely any and all of them that become big enough for the police to notice. Because its literally no work, you dont have to do anything and youre never at risk, its like a paid vacation for the infiltrators, the groups they invade are never a threat but there are huge national conferences on how to root them out and take them down, seminars, training materials, full-time consultants federal cash for local departments everything, payola, an entire industry. To take down groups of wimpy street pissers whose entire bar for entry is "you must be This Unwilling to work toward common goals or More to ride"

a good way to start is to not be a member of a group that says that other people in the group cant tell people what to do, or that replaces defined job roles and leadership with whatever the fly looking 20 year old who showed up from Chicago last week says is Top Priority

if you turned Four Lions into a con game played by fat secret dads against the primaries and then removed all the explosives and knowledge of how to make explosives from the mix you would have a good idea of any given local anarchist group. Multiply that out and you have the current system which is a wealth redistribution effort to benefit greenhorn and retired cops. The more anarchists there are the better it is for local police departments, they can make budget on the federal aid alone and fill their caves with toys so id assume some of them are probably just creating the anarchist groups, at least on paper Tonkin Gulf style, and then "infiltrating" them while their credit cards Autonomously drive over to the Pole 'n' Hole and pay for 3 pm lapdances all by themselves.

What's really fascinating is how fast this whole trend/strategy of disruptive calling out / shutting people up has happened.

The Enlightenment part of me that cherishes reasoned debate and free speech and so on is pissed

And yeah no reason to think this is a fed creation - it's a logical development of the idea that words are literally violent and that one of the key roles of anyone interested in Justice is protecting the vulnerable from those words

I spent way too much time trying to figure out what was going on in that vid when it came out, I think in some article that guy vaguely defended an in-house anarchist group sexual assault litigation process, which itself seems kind of insane, because his friend set it up or something. There is definitely a far more organized and effective group of people publicizing stupid activist drama like that than there used to be, as evidenced by ‘SJW’ becoming a mainstream internet acronym, but I don't know if that reflects an actual increase in dysfunctional activism
