i drank 2 beers tonight and that was all i had at home, so i decided to walk 'downtown.' i live in a famously 'leftist' area, takoma park md, coloquially known as "the peoples republic of takoma park." so i walk to the downtown area and i see this group of (white) ppl, 20ish, all of them have robyn-style haircuts, tattoos, one of the men has womens socks up to his knees, they have politicla patches sown on their clothes. so i look at one of the patches and it says "END EXTREME WEALTH." lol how fucking unambitious is that. is that what passes for a rebellious, alternative stance? end "extreme" wealth? maybe thats an occupy side effect, instead of smash capitalism, fuck the 0.1%! it's absurd to me that people clearly presenting as something hardcore would be making such a milquetoast statement.

im NOT dressed or styled like an idiot yet im leagues more radical than those folks... i texted my one friend (actually, i have two friends) about it and he said "did you tell them about marxism" but unfortunately i did not, and what i did do was go to a restaurant called 'Republic' (a knowing wink at the 'peoples republic' rep) in order to buy a few expensive beers and a spinach salad while sitting alone.

This is why we desperately need Elizabeth Warren in 2016.

This is Takoma Park, MD? Montgomery County is the 10th richest county in the US and like much of the Washington area is growing ever richer with the money obama earns from solardeath. I don't wanna be a jerk but it's a little absurd that you would assume any good faith in a sentiment someone sticks to their Robyn-Longshoreman-Hitler Youth outfit for a night out in a wealthy liberal college town.

it's not a college town but otherwise yah, much of it is quite wealthy which is why the area's supposed left-tilt is kind of funny but it's real in exactly the way you'd expect:

Takoma Park's electorate and its elected officials are known for their liberal and left-of-liberal values, which have led to the enactment of several municipal laws. For instance, Takoma Park allows non-U.S.-citizen residents to vote in its own municipal elections, and has lowered their voting age to 16. The city was also forbidden, by statute, from doing business with any entity having commercial ties with the government of Burma (Myanmar), though after a United States Supreme Court decision struck down a similar Massachusetts provision, enforcement of the provision was suspended in the year 2000. As of 2007, the Free Burma Committee is inactive. In 2008, the city unanimously approved a resolution to oppose foie gras.

Takoma Park is noted for being a "Nuclear Free Zone" along with cities including Berkeley, California; Cleveland Heights, Ohio; Madison, Wisconsin; and Homer, Alaska. It has an active Nuclear Free Zone Committee that advocates for nuclear disarmament and is entrusted with making purchasing recommendations to the city. Employees are forbidden from purchasing from companies involved in the production of nuclear weapons or their components.

Because Takoma Park is a certified Tree City, its residents must obtain a permit from the City arborist to cut down any tree on their property measuring more than 8 inches in diameter. This has contributed to the preservation of second-growth hardwood forest which covers much of the city, as is visible in satellite photos.

#14
there's a big ethiopian immigrant population but theres lots of multi-generational people too, they're just pushed out into my part of town, outside the boundaries of the beautiful forested stretch of victorian era homes.
