Tbh I don't think there's any way to respond to these two points.

what is a boi? one might think it's analogous to a grrl, but this is clearly false. the grrl is empowered and enlightened relative to 'girl' whilst the boi appears to exist only as a diminutive mockery of 'boy'. it's vexing.

these days, unless you're born rich, the only ways to get discipline and a sense of civic duty, to have a career travelling the world learning foreign languages and cultures, or to do any truly interesting and fun science & engineering job, are through a career in the US military

i forget if ive posted abt this before but i might as well tell the story again is p good

when i was in college the son of the dean of students died in afghanistan on his first tour. some of the ppl in my classes were older n were friends w the dean n everyone was being v mournful sad. all ppl talking in a circle outside abt how sad it is young man go so early in his life etc etc turned into conversation abt how good the military is as an institution esp for minorities and women as a means of social mobility and i couldnt help myself. up to that point i was just zipping my yap like trying to be like "yeah its rly sad how many young ppl are dying in afghanistan" but i had to say something now so i said "good for women ... besides the near-guarantee of being raped by your male comrades" that made everyone rly awkward and quiet and dispersed the conversation good job tom

lol good times.

when i went to china i was the only economics student with a group of development studies students. they were all like radical feminists and such. but we had this day when we were all invited to tour a chinese prison. and of course it was a disneyfied tour for foreigners but like there are a bunch of people to a tiny room with bunks and such so i was still like damn this sucks here. we had this big discussion with officials and such and a bunch of our group started talking about how in north america prison is like a joke and you watch television in your room all day and such. i wasn't even all that left wing yet and i was like yeah uhh you know people aren't allowed to leave right. like people in prison are caged for years and years right. anyway the conversation stopped and we had lunch in the canteen. baby's first whine.

the the modern US Troop Experience consists entirely of sitting around playing grabass/xbox, shooting unarmed civilians, or if youre really lucky, pressing a button to bomb them from a mile away. there is no "combat" to prepare them for

the army would call my house in high school and the one time i answered it was a latino recruiter who began with some spiel aimed at the ~Latino Youth~ that basically stopped just short of using the word "raza" in trying to relate to me ahahaha

he just said some trite generalities about how good the army was for "our" community, and how it would help me develop as a Hispanic Man. i didn't talk to him for long and i don't precisely remember what he said because i was probably in 10th grade, but that was the gist of it. ironically, i'm a bougie half-white latino and i sound white as heck/know almost all my spanish from school. i wasn't a dick or anything, but he could likely tell i wasn't interested and wasn't his intended cultural/class audience, not to mention that i was already against the u.s. military. it always struck me as downright nefarious that they got a latino who blatantly sounded like he was latino. it's an essential tactic for any organization, sure, but it's some evil shit coming from the great satan.
