you just have to cross the border east from romania into moldova or north from romanian bucovina into ukrainian bucovina to see the difference. and that's with eastern romania being the poorest region of the country, the difference is way more striking if you go from way richer Transylvania.
here's a graph I like to call Poland Strong
And I guess am a little biased as for me being outside the EU meant growing up in the 90s with me and my sister being raised by a single mother on 50-70 dollars a month, not eating for days anything but bread and water (and maybe potatoes if we were lucky lol) to the point that I was so malnourished I looked like one of those somali kids, a walking skeleton w/ the big belly, I was wearing the same pair of shoes for years and had to take great care of them cause my mom didn't afford to buy me new ones, etc. The situation in the country started to improve dramatically in the 2000s with the adoption of the acquis and the steps towards joining the EU, and now that I afford to eat everyday, buy whatever clothes I want, have a computer and internet (I didn't have either until I was in college) and whatever small things that I guess ya'll who live in countries where "people are fat because their poor!" take for granted, am instinctively liking my life in the EU way more than I liked my life back when I was a kid. I guess that's a really simplistic view, but I don't care

they "protested" with guns and shot and killed 4 local civilians, some of whom were apparently teenagers, which is what provoked the mob anger; tho I must confess I was lollin way harder when it was just beating up russians instead of killing tehm
its really surreal to think this shit is happening a 3 hours drive from where I live wtf

because opposing russia in this means taking NATO's side, and I can't with a clean conscience do the THEIR BOTH BAD AM TAKING THE HIGHER ROAD HERE thing even if I want to
speaking of NATO, I love the talking point of NATO surrounding Russia as if they forcefully occupied all these countries against their will, when in fact it was the other way around and everybody ran to NATO the first moment they could. and it's not as if they took us in immediately, Romania had to beg for a decade to join and even with big brother France doing a ton of lobby for us, the americans we're like fuck off we don't want you and kept refusing; the only reason we were finally let in was because of 9/11, and last month when we had a ceremony for 10 years of NATO membership, the sentiment among commentators/journalists was that we should thank Bin Laden lol
oh yea, and another thing: these Ukraine events are doing a perfect job in illustrating how, unless you're already really rich, powerful and stable, you can't really be a successful neutral country in this region, you have to take sides as otherwise both sides will fuck you over. and even tho I hate that we're now part of NATO, the alternative looks way worse if you consider how much poorer and shittier countries that have mostly been under russia's sphere are (like Moldova, Armenia and Ukraine or the dictatorial hellholes in central asia). I guess I would have been way more content with joining only the EU and not NATO, but at the time NATO membership was an unofficial requirement for entering EU, it wasn't like we had a choice
lol
Meanwhile, in reality land, Russia is still facing a demographic collapse and a full NATO military encroachment, unpredictable climate change that is a total coin toss (though either way they aren't prepared), so I'm going to say that if they somehow pull an Oriental hail mary last minute pass and eclipse Germany as the new European empire (lol), they'll still be a much easier empire to usurp than one fucking spanning almost the entire globe. Ya know, because empires actually need infrastructure, clients, and wealth to support their power. Not ooga booga fantasy.
Anyway, best of luck joining in the horrifying feast of global accumulation. Go back to twitter
This is the principle of collective defense.
Notes: The height of each bar is given by the country’s total index value, which is then broken down into the respective components. Countries are identified by their two-letter ISO code. Take care, because CH is Switzerland, not China (which is CN), and SA is Saudi Arabia, not South Africa (not shown, as it was ranked number 26).

Of course, quantifying imperialism by economic indicators is incomplete and misses the dynamism of a global system. But it's insane to suggest that Russia is the biggest European imperial power, it's pure stupidity.
If you want your country to get a bigger chunk of the global extraction, have your nation be distorted and warped by the imperium, be integrated further into the centres of Capital, serve faithfully as a running dog in the next adventure in the Orient, that's great for you I guess, not so great if you're a communist. Fuck Outa Here

which is literally happening in ukraine right now. the pro-russians in the east don't reject the new government because of some Sudden Ethnic Fervour For Glorious Motherland it's because the people in the ronda want to offer up their lives on a stone altar as a gift to the fart ghost of global capital

That's not actually true with Moldova vs. Turkey unless you're talking about pre-'91. Did you mean Belarus or Ukraine?
