Yeah but the problem it's useful but not the end of discussion that so many of its evangelists make it out to be. More than any pro sport baseball is very developmental where players peek at different times (and sometimes reinvent their entire approach; a strikeout pitcher at 25 becomes a one-out groundball specialist at 35) and in those cases I think there's no control for variables possible.
It's also annoying in that the point of Moneyball was finding players undervalued by the rest of the league, while 15 years later every single team does those things, but the stat people still love the victim complex. Like because Vin Scully mentions game winning RBIs instead of someone's VORP and Mike Scioscia calls for a sacrifice you are somehow marginalized, ugh shut up
I also just really like stolen bases and bunts and 80s style baseball
