Grabbing other people's property with no thought to the consequences? It's a way of life to these people.
I mean, compare the rebellion of 1837 in Upper Canada and Lower Canada. One ended in a tiny scrap around a bar, and the other took several battles to shut down.
Course, Toronto should be able to rally around the fact that nationalism and socialism would mean that Canadians benefit from our massive amount of resources, as opposed to rich Americans, but what are you going to do?
Not that I'm advocating Nationalism Socialism, but most of the times a socialist movement is successful is when people are aware of how different capitalists are to them. Hence the shortlived success of anti-colonialist movements.

welfare payments are basically the same in ontario and quebec, that is, very low. K12 education is much more privatized, with a lot of people in montreal sending their kids to private schools (government pays half the tab or something like that). there is a better child care program in quebec, though, and university tuition is somewhat lower (if you include mcguinty's big rebate thing for ontario students). taxes are much higher in quebec though to fund the programs they have.
which is interesting, because it has definite utility in opposing the koch funded redneck nation Wild Rose party, who can be clearly identified as corporate shills using that argument. but what's the cost??? how does one balance the praxis of opposing a serious apocalyptic corporatist threat against the opportunity cost (lol) of leaning on nationalist rhetoric?
other than the obvious alternative of nuking alberta into a flat glass plane, which I as an alberta native am 100% in favor of
