"you dont mind...", id inquire "even tho were both boys". lessons-kun wud avert my lustful gaze and whimper with intriguinly moe stutter "l-like you said.. it okay"...

wait so when people in the humanities say "ive read something" they actually dont mean "we had to read the whole book, and now i know what the fuck is going on about it", they mean "i told my professor i read the book"? i feel sort of annoyed that im actually trying to read things now.

I'm sorry that you're annoyed about trying to read things, do you need a tutor? Reading is quite satisfying once you can actually do it and I'm always willing to help in the fight against illiteracy.

(just) one of the (many) reasons an english lit degree is so undervalued is that the majority of people literally never read any of the assigned work and yet still graduate with tolerable grades. i knew a girl who graduated from berkeley and got a job at a publisher yet knew nothing more about literature than a first year undergrad at community college. you only get what you put into it no matter where you go and now i'm delivering pizzas while some asshole who didn't give a fuck graduated with Cs and his uncle got him an awesome job. welcome to the world. im not bitter.

yeah most students really dont seem to give a shit about what they are actually reading, don't understand it on anything but a pseudo-empiricist, analytical level and just don't really love it but graduate by just shitting something out somehow.

most of the teachers are underpaid precariat adjuncts themselves and constantly pressed for time, so there's usually no opportunity to actually talk about or engage with the stuff you're assigned to read. whenever you try to have some kind of public discussion you run into an invisible wall

great show but i can go one better: on thursday night at trivia our team was dead even with another in the final round and i won the tiebreak by guessing correctly that Cape Aguilas was the southernmost point of the African continent, not the Cape of Good Hope; the answer given by the leader of the other team who was, no joke, the Red Wiggle
