meh, they shouldn't be extensive or brutal. I'm with Plato's Laws, but I worry more about recidivism; corrections should be nice and focused on rehabilitation, but with regular and fearless application of the death penalty.

koestler's darkness at noon horrified me because the arguments made by the stalinists in the book are actually sound. koestler intends for their arguments to sound barbaric and cynical, but to me they make complete sense.
