I really facepalm when I see leftists talking about ecology because there isn't actually a link between it and their economic positions. The massive population growth in the third world is only possible because of foreign aid, and even within developed countries welfare subsidizes having children.
You also hear leftists make vague statements about using energy wastefully but they never back it up with evidence.
From 1960, which is about when the US left the Third World, energy consumption has only gone up a quarter. From 1750 it's only gone up threefold while wages have risen dozens of times over. There just isn't anything there to cut, besides infrastructure, military, healthcare, and all those unimportant things the government does. While leftards rail against apparent signs of waste like SUVs and fast food those are a trivial part of overall consumption.
In conclusion liberalism offers very little in terms of dealing with overpopulation and a lot to make it worse.

I'm not criticizing organic farming, it's a good social-fascist activity, I'm just doing my job.

The agriculture sector in the U.S. uses less than 2 percent of total U.S. energy consumption.
Just to put things in perspective.
One thing I think people should talk more about is biofuel and agriculture subsidies and how they oppress the Third World.
You know, now that I think about it, permaculture is actually a very good thing.
