maybe she can use this office as a platform with which to explain what trotskyism is
#4
I care
#5
cool i hope she wins
#6
( she leads Richard Conlin by 1148 votes! )

apparently she's out of the automatic recount range right now, which is a good sign.

i wonder if any CPUSA members supported her campaign or if they stuck with the democratz.
#7
Seattle is cool but looking at the word makes my head hurt.
#8
Just watch when she starts the American proletarian revolution.

Trotsky was right!
#9
I want to see how rent control goes. thats all I really care about. that and making mass transit free and ramping up property taxes to the nth. and uhh public housing. the minimum wage crap was supported by sawant's democratic opponent lol.
#10
well it's a nine-member council that just controls part of seattle, like just the part properly known as seattle and not all the suburbs and such. so she'll just be one voice out of nine. it's also basically all democrats i think although it's technically non-partisan. so presumably they will just ignore her. still, she will be able to shout through the windows at the working class begging for change.

the minimum wage crap was supported by sawant's democratic opponent lol.

i just watched a thing where he said he didnt support it? but maybe im wrong

#12
the person i voted for last was just campaigning today for a $14 minimum wage in ontario. which suggests to me it might be picked up by the NDP, or at least part of the way there, which means that mainstream politicians in the white cracker nation of north "america" hold that position already.

oh. maybe it was someone else on the council. I got the impression that it wasn't this radical far-out demand in the context of seattle municipal politics

#14
seattle had a city council member in the early 2000s who got in on rent-control issues. she lasted a year before getting outed because of taking donations from a strip club for a whopping $36,000 dollars. hopefully OKshama lasts longer than that. i didn't vote btw.
#15
When you told me Kshama Sawant was a Trotskyite, the first thing I did was Google the word 'Trotskyite'. All i know is Seattle needs a candidate with a record of respecting women, and the issues that matter to them.
#16
She won yey

how did this happen?

Yet, shockingly, socialists can regularly be found on college campuses. Kshama Sawant, an economics teacher at Seattle Central Community College, openly endorses socialism. She also is running for Seattle City Council and, with the latest election returns, claims 49.5% of the vote. With many ballots left to count, she could still win.

How on earth can somebody who rejects basic academic knowledge be so close to winning a city council seat? Even more troublingly, how can somebody with her beliefs be allowed to teach an economics course? This would be analogous to allowing an AIDS denier to teach a medical microbiology course, a 9/11 truther to teach a foreign policy course, or a creationist to teach an evolution course.
