"A DISCOURSE ON BROCIALISM"

Brand is precisely the sort of swaggering manarchist I usually fancy. His rousing rhetoric, his narcissism, his history of drug abuse and his habit of speaking to and about women as vapid, ‘beautiful’ afterthoughts in a future utopian scenario remind me of every lovely, troubled student demagogue whose casual sexism I ever ignored because I liked their hair. I was proud to be featured in the ‘Revolution’ issue that this magazine put out, proud to be part of the team that produced it. But the discussions that have gone on since about leaders, about iconoclasm and about sexism on the left need to be answered.

It comes up whenever women and girls and their allies are asked to swallow our discomfort and fear for the sake of a brighter tomorrow that somehow never comes, putting our own concerns aside to make things easier for everyone else like good girls are supposed to. It comes up whenever a passionate political group falls apart because of inability to deal properly with male violence against women. Whenever some idiot commentator bawls you out for writing about feminism and therefore 'retreating' into 'identity politics' and thereby distracting attention from 'the real struggle'.
But what is this 'real struggle', if it requires women and girls to suffer structural oppression in silence? What is this 'real struggle' that hands the mic over and over again to powerful, charismatic white men? Can we actually have a revolution that relegates women to the back of the room, that turns vicious when the discussion turns to sexual violence and social equality? What kind of fucking freedom are we fighting for? And whither that elusive, sporadically useful figure, the brocialist?
*ppppht* *makes exaggerated jerk-off motion* help i only get four-fifths rations from those who run the mound of skulls because am more concerned with squirting out more slaves than working to stack with maximum efficiency. what's needed here is a economic revaluation on the importance of slave production
http://pennyred.blogspot.ca/2009/11/shut-up-little-girl-dont-you-know-grown.htmlCriticise my writing, my ideas, my politics. Tell me I'm wrong, that I haven't read enough, that I need to educate myself more. Criticise my over-use of the semi-colon and inability to spell the word 'acheive'. Criticise my Marshall McLuhan fetish, my weakness for overblown feminist polemic, my frantic desire to find and create bridges between parts of a British left so divided that the effort itself may very well be useless. But don't call me a silly little girl. Don't tell me I'm unaware of my own privilege. If you do, don't expect me to run off crying. Don't expect me to sit down and shut up when the grown ups are talking. I am opinionated, articulate and unapologetic, and I am far fucking stronger than a lot of people would like to believe.

I challenge anyone to name a more pretentious weenie on the left than Richard Seymour.

Vox Nihili

I like it when people speak English with foreign accents.

I would respond to your post but I gotta hit the gym right now so I'll type up a response later.
If you hear one of those GOP hicks, possibly with Texan accent, talk about Marx, you know there's actually a relationship between libertarianism and marxism. Both use anarchy to establish oligarchy.

Pew: Majority Of Americans Support NSA Phone Tracking

We're a little late noting this poll, but it's important so we're backing up a bit: A Pew poll released Monday finds a majority of Americans — 56 percent — think the National Security Agency's tracking of phone records "is an acceptable way for the government to investigate terrorism."
Forty-one percent say it is unacceptable.

Ten years ago, I was also diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. After some good ol’ fashion doctor scaring and threats of having my foot amputated, I chose to lose weight for the first time in my life.
Now, I weigh 145 pounds. It occurred to me just today that now I can eat whatever sweet I want, the same ice cream, milkshakes, pies, cupcakes, cookies, popsicles, all things wonderful, and even though I still have diabetes and maybe probably shouldn’t do those things, it’s totally socially acceptable now that I’m smaller. No one shames me for it, now it is seen as, “it’s fine to treat yourself every now and then. Go on, you earned it!” Earned it how?
Who is to say I didn’t earn those sweets ten years earlier? Getting a good grade on a test, keeping my room clean, helping a younger sibling with homework, completing an art project, exercising for two weeks straight and just wanting something a little sweet to cap it off? Hell no, fatty pants. Reward yourself with more exercise!
My former self deserved that caramel ice cream bar just as much as my current self. Fat, skinny, whatever. And I’m pretty sure my feet are staying attached to the rest of me, despite that fun size Pay Day I had earlier.
I went to a game over the weekend - the seats were clearly designed for an unrealistic maximum weight. The only way I could fit was to sit at the edge of the seat and sort of slide back, forcing my hips underneath the armrests. It was extremely uncomfortable. On one side of me was a little kid who didn’t seem bothered. On the other side was a girl who was NOT pleased that I was taking up a small portion of *her* seat and loudly discussing how sweaty I was (it was 85+ degrees) with her friends. One of them sympathized that it must be gross, having me pressed up against her.
I got up to get some food (omg a fat person eating alert!) and when I came back, I discovered that one of the vendors had given the girl a piece of cardboard to put in between herself and the armrest. With this cardboard in place, I discovered that I could not fit in the seat. It was impossible. I asked her to remove the cardboard. She said no. I got a security guard. He looked at the situation and said he couldn’t do anything, the cardboard was on her side of the seat only, so she was entitled to have it there if she wished.
I left in tears.
the average human (5'8", 150 pounds) has around a 1700 calorie basal metabolic rate, a 500 pound human (same height) has around a 3900 calorie basal metabolic weight. you are eating for more than two humans just to maintain that body weight. with normal daily activities coupled with the fact that many obese people continue to gain weight without stabilization, that is a lot of food.

fat privilege is thinking that an 150lb woman is "skinny"
