"b-b-but vox, teh sales clerk in your example doesnt actually choose who to serve, whereas doctors DO!"

actually, doctors, architects, and most others are faced with general de facto economic coercion and specific institutional coercion into serving specific parties and not others. of course, this economic coercion operates to a lesser extent on those in lucrative professions, so yes, doctors and architects who exclusively service the wealthy (most architects and many doctors) will fall further toward the "perpetuating capitalism" side of the sliding scale than the hapless clerk but not nearly so far as the banker

today on rhizzone, should some people kill themselves or should everyone kill themselves? we report you decide
#244
everyone must die, but some should die in a more brutal fashion imo

HA HA HA ! looks like my comrades need to consult their little red books before being eager to join the American pharmo-medical-industrial complex so soon. did saint mao need doctors on the long march? did doctors ever contribute to helping poor and oppressed in times of social strife? remember, "if you will it, it is no dream"- the DUDE himself. preventable diseases and TRUE medical assistance can be achieved only under the dialectical unity of marxist-lenninist-maoist-stalinist-hoxhaist-chibberist-kilmanist thought.

im dont see why its essentially necessary to bring "profession" into the discussion of the morality at all beyond which kinds of work are available to specific people, and which way to structure your education when you're young enough to not already have boxed yourself into a specific range of options. it sounds like you would agree that a doctor that exclusively does really expensive plastic surgery would have fewer morality points than someone who manages the accounts of the sryian red crescent or something. on the other hand it probably makes more sense to say that on average people who identify as finance people do more harm as a group than people who identify as medical people (drs, nurses, people who do admin at hospitals, etc). but that doesnt mean a specific person is automatically doing something bad by associating with the bad group. so again, in the context of an individual considering the moral dimensions of career choice, i dont think that making broad statements about the morality of a huge swath of potential jobs is not that helpful and it makes more sense to try and avoid specific known injustices.

this is important tho. personally i thought it was what we were talking about even if maybe it wasn't really

#251
yeah its definitely important but its not really something you can do much about in retrospect.

today i completed all the work that my job lady told me to do for this week like a boss

one thing she suggested is that i look into those websites that allow you to bid on freelance work and small consulting contracts. she said this might be a way to work on basic job skills and build up some experience while making a bit of money before i level up to the big time. i sort of thought they were bullshit but apparently there are some that aren't that bad.

every time i ever checked them out it was just a bunch of guys in china and india bidding like $50 for every contract. might be ok for experience but not so much for first-world income

Sorry to get on your case again, Fringus, but isn't it somewhat Ironic that you would adjectivally refer to your achievements in employment-seeking as being done "like a boss"?

It appears, in fact, that you may currently lack the class-consciousness sufficient for the purpose of observing, in a Marxist manner, the employer-employee relationship inherent to the Cistem of Capitalist Labour, and thus lack the ability to produce cogent analyses of the Reality of Fucking Life.

Amen.

i only read about an hour a day and it's pretty immense but it's really fun. i like the epic scope. gonna be another week or so before i finish and hopefully it's building to something satisfying but i doubt i'm going to think the book is a masterpiece or anything. the fake science stuff with the extra dimensions or whatever is starting to feature more prominently and is cool
