any proper repository of knowledge should be built to strike dreadful fear in your heart imo. it should be a monument to the vastness of the state/academia/History relative to the smallness of any individual man or woman

this doesn't really convey how fucking impossibly huge it is when you're standing beside it, it doesn't look or feel like a peacock at all. it feels more like you are standing next to a piece of a terrible, uncomprehensible space-opera gothic starship that would never bother to contemplate anything as tiny as an individual human

unironically my favourite pomo building: none of this gay 'subtle referencing' shit.....just 'i'm going to make my building look like an elephant'

#138
i'm fucking furious that gehry has been given liscence to build this piece of shit in one of the more interesting and unique parts of our city

why do people like it? is it just novelty? you'd think after a dozen of these buildings people would stop getting all excited over such a half-baked concept: at least put it in some provincial city where the hayseeds can yak about it...what a disgrace
#139
i wish i could offer some input, but it looks like someone stepped on that scale model. perhaps post an undamaged one?

please, put this gehry building in some provincial backwater, not in sydney, the international city of commerce and culture sandwiched between a thousand miles of searing empty desert and a thousand miles of shark-infested ocean, the largest city in a country whose own head of state chooses to live on the other side of the world
#144
in london we now have a skyscraper that melts jaguars parked on nearby streets with reflected sunlight which could be a useful weapon in the class struggle if it hadn't been built in london, which has three days of sunshine a year

tbh it just looks like a slightly more angular version of the typical inscrutable slab structure, if anything those ridiculous elevators make it look like a giant toy, giant baby's first mix board

idk if I can take your opinions seriously when you post third rate gothic revival as an example of what buildings should look like.

The U of T library is a piece of shit. It's architecture is whatever but I wandered in one time to see what all the fuss was about and you need a student card to access literally anything.

It's like a complete fortress to the general public with key card access to the elevators, gates and security everywhere and a massive fuck you to anyone that wanders in off the street.

the UofT library now charges $300 a year if you want a membership and you're not a student. i guess the money goes to hold conferences about how to include the public.
#159
queen's library is $25 a year for alumni and $50 for general public, but it's probably more because they don't have the fear that hordes of the general public will crash through their doors looking for books because kingston is small.

They look like that because they're easier to build that way. There's all sorts of examples. One of the prettier ones was posted on the first page of this thread I think!

Edit: Here it is!
