Whether nationality is a basis of personality or not, it is still a substantial matter when you interact with other people. There's not a day goes by that a yank won't say "oh ho ho, god bless the queen" or some nonsense to anyone with a vaguely foreign, yet native-English speaking, accent. I told someone I lived in Melbourne today and they literally dragged me into a 20 minute conversation about, "do you know about that case where the dingbat ate my baby??"
